A leftist fake news outfit founded by Democratic activist Tara McGowan and funded by George Soros is launching a major Big Tech scheme to dominate the political information sphere ahead of the midterm elections.
Surprisingly, the damning news was broken by none other than NewsGuard, another notorious media outfit that MRC has exposed for using its ratings system as a cudgel to silence right-leaning media. Courier Newsroom, which has been fueled with at least $20 million between 2021 and 2023 alone by Soros, is making a “major bet” on weaponizing TikTok in order to sway votes.
Specifically, NewsGuard wrote that “Across 21 TikTok accounts — one for each state that Courier covers, plus a nationally focused account — Courier has generated an audience of 4.3 million followers and has collectively received 665.5 million likes on its videos.” Courier became infamous for spreading mass amounts of false information in past elections to manipulate voters.
The national TikTok account for the group, which boasts 3.7 million followers, boasts a significantly higher following “than @washingtonpost’s 2.1 million and almost as many as @nytimes’s 3.9 million.” If there were any questions about Courier’s motives, McGowan once spewed in her Twitter bio: “[W]eaponizing truth to get Trump TFO.” McGowan, in a 2019 internal memo, explicitly outlined how Courier’s role was to help Democrats get elected.
Apparently, the scheme is working. As NewsGuard concluded, “Courier is using its burgeoning TikTok audience as a selling point. In a February 2026 news release, Courier called itself ‘one of the largest news brands on TikTok in the United States.’” NewsGuard even went as far as to dub Courier as “pink slime,” which is a colloquial term used to describe “sites that present themselves as professional news outlets but are secretly backed by partisan groups with a clear though undisclosed agenda.”
Here’s a rule of thumb: If you’re taking $20 million from the most notorious billionaire in American politics, “partisan” becomes a euphemism by default. Strangely, NewsGuard didn’t mention Soros’s major monetary connection to Courier, especially in light of the fact that Soros himself had already poured $103.3 million to swing the political pendulum towards Democrats in this year’s pool of congressional and gubernatorial races, cementing himself — AGAIN — as a top midterm donor. Until recently, Soros was the top donor overall.
Courier already drew national attention for-cohosting a massive anti-Trump boycott of his State of the Union Address, featuring prominent speakers like actors Robert De Niro and Mark Ruffalo; lawmakers like Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and media figures like former CNN anchor Jim Acosta.
To combat Courier’s efforts, MRC is listing every one of Courier’s fake news outfits below hyperlinked with each’s own TikTok account.
