Coverage of the horrific shooting at an ICE detention center in Dallas, TX took a turn for the nasty. Correspondent Mireya Villareal implied that the shooting was ICE officers’ fault.  

Friday morning on NBC’s free streaming platform NBC News NOW, NBC Capitol Hill correspondent and MSNBC’s Way Too Early host Ali Vitali offered a fawning but mournful puff piece on a Texas family with a 15-year-old transgender child — born a boy but posing as a woman — that’s grown so fearful of their child’s existence and safety they’re leaving the United States for an undisclosed country.

While their evening counterparts were nowhere to be seen on Monday night, ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today followed through early Tuesday in celebrating Texas Democrats returning to the Lone Star State, painting them as conquering heroes for (temporarily) halting the GOP-proposed congressional maps and trumpeting their latest demand for attention.

New York Times columnist David Brooks may have officially lost it. On Friday’s PBS News Hour, Brooks reached back over 100 years into the time machine to pull out an analogy that says what President Trump and Texas are doing on redistricting is the equivalent of the German use of mustard gas in World War I.

The standard in what passes for elite legacy media doing their jobs is so eroded that we’ve almost allowed ourselves to cheer when they do something as rudimentary as ask a Democrat politician a question that might seem just a teensy bit uncomfortable. But, as we can learn from the latest episode of NBC’s Meet the Press, merely asking a question is not enough.

NBC’s Seth Meyers was in a good mood for a change during Wednesday’s Late Night. While Meyers accused Texas Republicans of trying “to rig the 2026 midterms” by redrawing the state’s congressional districts, he praised blue states for threatening to do the same, not realizing many are already more gerrymandered than Texas.

What the Texas redistricting fight has exposed is that there’s a huge (D)ifference in how liberals in the media react to partisan gerrymandering. The panel liberals on CNN NewsNight with Abby Phillip had a very hard time defending Texas Democrats’ flight to gerrymandered blue states.
