Edgard Portela
Edgard Portela is the Media Research Center’s Latino division news analyst and a bilingual contributor to NewsBusters since February 2016. He is the author of the MRC Latino study that looked into coverage of the situation in Venezuela in 2016, Venezuela Crisis Coverage: Univision, Telemundo Put ABC, CBS & NBC To Shame (Spanish version).
In an interview for Univision, Bernie Sanders shied away from speaking about US foreign policy and Latin America, in particular his speechlessness on the failures of socialism in Venezuela. Edgard Portela caught the moment, and was featured in many conservative news outlets like The Blaze, American Thinker, Red Alert Politics, and Hot Air, among others. He also caught the Vermont Socialist advocating for the release of an unrepentant terrorist from a communist extremist group, Oscar López Rivera, in a campaign stop in Portela’s native city San Juan, Puerto Rico.
Portela has been a leader in the conservative movement since his days as an undergraduate at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI (2008), where he studied Political Science and Economics, and served as Chairman of College Republicans. He is a long time suffering Detroit Lions fan.
