As if the CW’s The Republic of Sarah isn’t melodramatic enough, the latest episodes of the new show have involved an affair Alexis Whitmore is having with AJ Johnson, despite being married to the town's former mayor. In the July 19 episode “A Show of Hands,” that affair caused an abortion.

An LA Times Editorial from July 20 says “It’s time to get tough on COVID vaccine evaders.”

If I were to create my own utopian world, I’d get to laugh at people who use phrases like “ … the inane vagaries of late-republic American life.” Oh wait, I’ve been chuckling over a piece from Nation writer and MSNBC talking head Elie Mystal, so I must be living the dream.

The U.S. Women’s National soccer team lost 3-0 to Sweden in their Olympic opener on Tuesday. That probably hurts the team’s chances for the gold. But let’s not forget that this was a victory of sorts too. The U.S. ladies proved they could maintain a busy schedule of politicized grousing, kvetching and posturing, and still find time to lose a soccer game. You really can have it all, gals!

Sports Illustrated has gone completely anti-truth and released a new cover which features Leyna Bloom, who is a biological male. Despite what Bloom’s Twitter bio says, he is not helping to make the world or this country a better place.

Netflix's teen comedy Never Have I Ever dropped its second season on July 15. It brought us back into the world of high schooler Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) and the struggles she faces not only as a typical teen trying to navigate boys, friendships, and school, but one doing so as a first-generation Indian American caught between cultures.

Would you look at that? The creator of the “1619 Project,” that infernal New York Times piece that reframes America’s founding as being all about promoting slavery, is a fan of Communism and what Castro did to Cuba. Are we surprised? Well no, not really.

Mondays are tough for everyone, but this heartfelt story will hopefully make up for some of the insanity going on in the American political world today.
