CNN’s Newsroom with Carol Costello analyzed Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush's trip to Europe and campaign shakeup on Tuesday, and couldn't help but put a negative spin on it.
Costello wondered if Bush’s campaign shakeup might lead to a “meaner” candidate for the Republicans. The CNN host's question to a fellow network analyst on the former governor’s change-up of top staff exposes how she wanted to paint him throughout the entire segment:
CAROL COSTELLO, host: So we’ll see, I guess, a meaner Jeb Bush, Sarah?
SARAH MURRAY, guest: Well I sort of look at it this way: Dave Kochel (Bush’s previous Campaign manager) is the guy you might want to be your campaign manager in a time of peace. Danny Diaz (Kochel’s replacement) is the guy you want to be your campaign manager in a time of war. And it’s clear Jeb Bush is not the elder statesman- not the front runner that I think many people expected him to be.
Perhaps Costello and the liberal media fear a more assertive strategy from GOP candidates might make it a little more difficult to convince us the outcome is already set in stone, and any challengers to a particular candidate are simply wasting their time.
The left-leaning network also reminded us they haven’t forgotten about Mitt Romney’s European problems in 2012 as the host giggled over her memory of his campaign struggles:
COSTELLO: And he’s also playing it safe, Sarah, by focusing on Russia. I would assume that Vladimir Putin's name will come up a lot.
MURRAY: Yeah. I think that is definitely a safe bet. There's no real losing side of saying “look, we're taking a tougher, stronger line with Russia”... I think the primary goal here is to just not screw up. I was with Mitt Romney on his foreign trip in 2012. It was a total disaster. They really do not want anything that looks anything like that trip did in 2012.
COSTELLO, Host: (laughs) I can totally understand that.
A convenient reminder for those watching a new Republican presidential hopeful make his pitch in Europe. However none of this should come as any surprise considering CNN was so biased in their coverage of Romney’s trip that the Obama campaign used their headlines for a campaign advertisement.
