The November 3 Time magazine featured historian Richard Norton Smith's predictable take on the modern Republican Party. The author of a new biography on Nelson Rockefeller sneered that, as a result of the nomination of Barry Goldwater, "The party of Lincoln morphed into the party of Strom Thurmond."

Last week, former Washington Post features writer Martha Sherill oozed after “legendary” executive editor Ben Bradlee’s death that he was so handsome, he put Cary Grant to shame. So it’s a bit shocking to find another former Postie, Time editor at large David Von Drehle, outdoing Sherrill in the ooze department, throwing out the word “orgasm” to describe Bradlee’s charisma.

In an interview with Time for 10 Questions in the October 13 edition, Time’s Belinda Luscombe asked Marxist professor (and for a while, Tavis Smiley’s public radio co-host) Cornel West whether he voted for Obama in 2012.  West replied "I couldn't vote for a war criminal. He's tied to war crimes and drones dropping bombs on innocent people."
