CBS’s King Discouraged By 73 Million Trump Votes, Predicts Violent Transition

In a pre-recorded interview for CBS Sunday Morning, Obama family vacation buddy and CBS This Morning co-host Gayle King conducted a gooey interview with former President Obama regarding his new memoir about his time in office. Aside from whining about Republican opposition to his agenda, King lamented the state of the country seeing as almost 73 million people voted to reelect President Trump and predicted there would be no peaceful transition of power.

72 million people voted for Donald Trump. What does that say to you about the state of this country,” she lamented to the former President. And according to Obama, people voting for Trump meant “we are still deeply divided” because “the power of that alternative world view that is presented the media that those voters consume, it carries a lot of weight.”

King absurdly prompted Obama to share his fears of people having different opinions and how it was damaging to democracy:

KING: Are you worried about that?

OBAMA: Yes. It is very hard for our democracy to function if we are operating on just completely different sets of facts.

But as clear as we sit here today, we're not going to have a peaceful transition,” King declared without evidence. “I think about John McCain calling, George and Laura bush welcoming you and Michelle Obama to the White House.” She then complained about President Trump not acting like her buddy (Click “expand”):

KING: I remember you inviting Donald Trump to the White House.

OBAMA: If you succeed, then the country succeeds.

KING: I wish if you succeed because we want the country to succeed. He does not seem to have taken a page out of any of those playbooks.

Earlier in the interview, King gushed about Obama bashing Trump while on the campaign trail for President-elect Joe Biden. “It wasn't a matter of going low or high. You went in. They called it Barack Obama unleashed. Was it personal for you, or did you just think, ‘I've had it,’” she boasted.

King was in awe of her favorite president going to bat for Biden (click “expand”):

OBAMA: It wasn't personal. It actually--

KING: You didn't have an "I've had it" moment?

OBAMA: The truth is, everything I said – I was just stating facts.

You got a president right now, he wants full credit for an economy he inherited. He wants zero blame for the pandemic he ignored.

KING: But it was out of character for you to speak up, Mr. President, that way.

The first part of the segment featured King re-litigating and gripping about GOP opposition to the radical Obama agenda. “‘We're going to make him a one-term president.’ Mitch McConnell said that out loud. How do you deal with that kind of hostility,” she wondered.

She was also noticeably defensive of her vacation buddy when she got around to talking about Congressman Joe Wilson’s (R-SC) “you lie” declaration at a joint session of Congress:

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act eventually did pass with just three Republican senators voting yes. But the dye was cast. As the President then set out to overhaul the health care system, opposition to his agenda only increased. And when he addressed Congress in September of his first year in office, the hostility was overt and it was starting.

The only time she made an effort to feign being critical, King only showed that she was doting. “Throughout his term, President Obama was sometimes criticized for seeming aloof, not playing the D.C. political game,” she claimed. In reality, Obama was often criticized for his plethora of unconstitutional edicts.

CBS’s insistence on letting King (someone who also donated to Democrats) shows they’re not a serious news organization.

And when he addressed Congress in September of his first year in office, the hostility was overt and it was starting.

One of the big examples that many people saw of disrespect; you’re laying out the Affordable Care Act, joint session of Congress and in the middle of your speech, Congressman Joe Wilson, South Carolina yells in the middle of that, "You lie." I heard an audible gasp. And I looked at you. You know we could see the is veins on your head, on the side.

So, I’m wondering, what did you think in that moment, and what did you want to do? And what did you do?

BARACK OBAMA: I write about this.

KING: I know, and that’s why I’m asking you!

KING: 72 million people voted for Donald Trump. What does that say to you about the state of this country?

OBAMA: Well, what it says is that we are still deeply divided. The power of that alternative world view that is presented the media that those voters consume, it carries lot of weight.

OBAMA: Yes. It is very hard for our democracy to function if we are operating on just completely different sets of facts.

OBAMA: If you succeed, then the country succeeds.
