Taking a page out of today’s headlines, the CW’s Coroner aired an episode on September 9 titled “Confetti Heart” that focused on a white cop shooting and killing an unarmed black man. To hear the protesters in the Black Lives Matter movement, this sort of thing happens every day in America. This show, however, is set in Canada so at least the viewer is spared that line of propaganda.

Racist police harassing, attacking and almost killing innocent young men? Armed officers instigating peaceful protesters until it turns into a riot? A world so systematically racist that nobody from one particular race can ever rise up the social stratum? 

Amazon Prime’s The Boys is back, and with it are all the things we know and loathe. Within just the first three episodes, we’re subjected to numerous f-bombs, more gratuitous violence, and even a little religion bashing. Once again, there’s nothing heroic about this superhero series.

It’s amazing how the advanced future always seems to be viewed through a liberal lens on television. Either we devolve into a hedonistic nightmare or fall victim to a dystopian society based on not following liberal practices. HBO Max’s latest sci-fi series Raised by Wolves does both by espousing how belief in religion “weakens” the human mind and atheism is "the only path to progress."

Netflix's Hoops, a raunchy cartoon, is definitely for adults. Just as this series isn’t for kids, neither is its main character, Ben Hopkins (Jake Johnson), who coaches the Lenwood High School basketball team.

On September 1, NBC premiered the “Pilot” of Transplant, which had been the most-watched television series for the 2019-2020 season when it aired in Canada. The title is a play on words, as transplant is not only a medical term, but applies to the main character, Bashir Hamed (Hamza Haq), a doctor from Syria who is a refugee in Canada.

HBO’s Lovecraft Country is probably the perfect show for this time. Namely, it’s the perfect show to compliment the hateful racial breakdown that’s happening all over the country. Like any given riot, Lovecraft Country is only happy to pour fuel on the fire of a false racial narrative.  

The 2020 MTV Video Music Awards aired on Sunday, August 30 from New York City and Black Lives Matter and get out the vote messages were sprinkled throughout. 

Last week, Netflix received public backlash for its planned premiere of the French film Cuties. The promotional poster for the film showed underage girls posing seductively in risqué outfits.

Showtime’s The Chi came to an end after three seasons with August 23’s episode, “A Couple, Two, Three.” A remaining storyline was whether Kiesha (Birgundi Baker) was going to have an abortion following a kidnapping and rape.

Yellowstone’s third season went out with a bang. Literally. **Warning: SPOILERS**

Freeform’s Love in the Time of Corona may go down in history as the one show nobody wanted to see. A snapshot of the miserable shutdowns done with all the subtlety of the Party of Five reboot. When even The Daily Beast calls it “unbearably on the nose and oversimplified,” something clearly went wrong.  

On Friday, Netflix premiered Teenage Bounty Hunters, a dramedy about high school girls who become assistants to a local bail recovery agent.

Land development and ranching are both dirty, mean and violent businesses, if Yellowstone is to be believed. Hollywood loves to make businessmen their villains and Yellowstone is no exception. The twist in this show is that the Dutton family and their foes are all willing to be evil to keep or to get what they want.
