Sunday political affairs programming switched gears as the networks prepare to cover (or fawn over) this week’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago. With the spotlight on the Democratic ticket, there was nary a mention of the various and sundry scandals surrounding the Democratic vice presidential candidate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz.

On Thursday night’s Hardball on MSNBC, The Nation’s Joan Walsh questioned if the parents who spoke at the RNC actually lost their children due to illegal immigrant violence. During the segment with host Joy Reid, the two commiserated on how awful the “really dark, dystopic mess” the RNC was before Walsh tried to throw the victim’s parents under the bus.

A few days after the conclusion of the 2016 Democratic National Convention (DNC), TBS’s Full Frontal host Samantha Bee spent her Monday show reacting to the proceedings and, of course, resulted to bizarre and over-the-top vulgarities seeking to grab that included the suggestion that the patriotism displayed at the DNC was like receiving a “blow job from the American flag.”

Top U.S. Spanish-language television networks Univision and Telemundo virtually buried the Republican convention speeches by the parents of victims of violent crimes committed by people who are living in the country illegally, devoting less than a minute to the subject.

Amidst all the overwhelming media coverage gushing over President Barack Obama’s Wednesday night speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC), there were a few points during MSNBC’s coverage in the early hours of Thursday that couldn’t go by without being chronicled for NewsBusters readers. 

The New York Times post-convention political roundup praised Democratic stage-craft, Hillary Clinton’s acceptance speech, and forwarded complaints about bias at Fox News (but not CNN). Adam Nagourney’s “Stark Contrasts in Style and Substance” praised Democratic convention stagecraft and says that as a speaker who can “move a crowd, seize a moment...Barack Obama laps the field.”

After the networks spent the morning going crazy over Clinton’s "emotional" and "historic" Thursday night speech at the DNC, the cable news shows proved they couldn’t get enough either on Friday morning. Carol Costello on CNN’s Newsroom, provided one of the more over-the-top examples from the media’s fan club, calling Clinton women's "white knight."

Acting more like a doorman than a journalist during PBS coverage of the Democratic National Convention Thursday night, CBS This Morning co-host Charlie Rose invited former Attorney General Eric Holder to blast Donald Trump: “You also said that Donald Trump, you questioned his gray matter. You mean he’s not smart enough to be president?”

In marked contrast to their coverage of the final night of the 2016 Republican convention, the nation's top Spanish-language television networks was characterized by overwhelmingly celebratory coverage of the final night of the Democratic National Convention.
