As liberal film maker Spike Lee appeared as a guest on CNN's Piers Morgan Tonight, he complained that the National Rifle Association has a "Vulcan death grip" that prevents the enaction of further gun control.
During a discussion of politics, host Piers Morgan recounted recent high-profile shootings and raised the issue of gun control:

The common theme of those two, the Sikh temple, they're always buying guns legally. All this stuff is just easy to access, and my point is, make it incredibly hard. Countries that don't get as many gun murders or anything like it.
Lee retorted: "So what do you do about NRA?" leading Morgan to follow up: "What do you do about NRA, which holds this incredible power-?"
Lee complained:
They got the Vulcan death grip. I mean, like, you know, you talked about it. There's a silence about the power that they have, and they're running things. They're setting the agenda.
