MSNBC's Chris Matthews is so hell-bent on trashing Arizona's Republican Governor Jan Brewer after her dust-up with President Obama that on Friday's Hardball he dragged out a poll from November showing a high disapproval of her in her state.
I guess Matthews - who just Tuesday revealed that he had never heard of Congressional insider trading until the President mentioned it during the State of the Union address - missed a poll released two days ago showing high favorability numbers for Brewer (video follows with transcript and commentary):
CHRIS MATTHEWS: And now for a fact-check. Arizona Governor Jan Brewer drew some scrutiny for the tense encounter she had with President Obama when the President arrived in Arizona. Well, Republican Congressman Trent Franks of Arizona came on Hardball last night and had this to say about Brewer’s record and popularity in his own state.

CONGRESSMAN TRENT FRANKS (R-ARIZONA): She came in the same time Barack Obama did. The state of Arizona was among the worst hit by the housing crisis. We were 47th in job creation. She’s balanced the budget. She’s universally loved in Arizona.

First of all, it is universally accepted that PPP is a liberal polling group.
Far more important, a new poll released Wednesday by Behavior Research Center of Arizona told a completely different story as reported by the Arizona Republic:
Arizonans like their governor and state Legislature, according to a new poll by Behavior Research Center of Arizona. [...]
Pollsters interviewed 553 registered Arizona voters via phone Jan. 5-9. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 percentage points. Voters were asked to rate the job performance of Gov. Jan Brewer and the Legislature.
When asked about Brewer's job performance, 37 percent indicated it was excellent/good, 30 percent said fair and 29 percent said poor/very poor.
That means that 67 percent in this poll approved of Brewer's job performance.
No wonder Matthews opted to report the liberal one from November and totally ignore this one.
