As Americans gear up for another tumultuous midterm election year, voters should be aware that the most notorious billionaire in politics is still actively trying to bend society into his own personal plaything from an entire menu of political and sociocultural angles.
George Soros, who has emerged as one of the top political donors (again) for the midterms, has dedicated his massive fortune over the years to exploiting the vehicles of media, climate change, terrorism, education, elections, censorship and lawfare to be agents of his dark "open society" worldview.
To that end, Soros has poured well over $32 billion to ensure his Open Society Foundations (OSF) remain a well-oiled machine to ensure that the “arc of history” is foreseeably bent to his will now with his more radical son Alex taking the throne of the empire.
The elder Soros once boasted that “[i]t is a sort of disease when you consider yourself some kind of god, the creator of everything, but I feel comfortable about it now since I began to live it out,” according to The Independent in 1993. This is not just the musings of a billionaire overdosing on his own ego. He has developed an international reputation for putting his money where his mouth is. In fact, Morton Abramowitz, a former head of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, once referred to Soros as “the only man in the United States who has his own foreign policy and can implement it.”
This acknowledgement alone puts Soros on a political tier that drastically separates him from his peers who may or may not have larger fortunes than he does. It was The Washington Post in 2017 that dubbed OSF “one of the most powerful philanthropies in the United States.” German public broadcaster Deutsche Welle went as far as to call OSF in 2026 “among the world's most influential NGOs.” And what he left in the wake was vast political chaos.
This did not happen in a vacuum. From infamously breaking the Bank of England and making his “greatest” financial gains by “destabilizing currencies on the global market,” as Stanford University summarized, Soros made his mint off of the very type of chaos he now foments through his multibillion-dollar empire.
Day-by-day and little-by-little, America and the world is slowly inching towards Soros’s dystopian vision, whether willingly or unwillingly. As Americans head to the polls this November, MRC Business is providing a brief primer on the tentacles of one of the darkest political forces still in operation today and the devastating consequences it will continue to wreak if left unchecked and allowed to proceed functioning in the shadows.
1. CONTROLLING THE MEDIA: Spent $400 Million to Control the Country’s Radio Airwaves
MRC has repeatedly exposed the fortunes Soros has spent to gain influence within the global media.
Nothing made this effort to control the public’s media diet more apparent than his chilling acquisition of radio giant Audacy — America’s second largest radio company — during the 2024 election season. Soros Fund Management purchased $400 million of Audacy’s debt, giving him a massive 40 percent stake in the company. That gave Soros control over the 16 powerful 50,000-watt radio stations that Audacy either features or streams, meaning that their coverage is especially widespread. What made the deal even more nefarious was that Biden's Federal Communications Commission dubiously fast-tracked Soros’s purchase of the radio giant that September against the typically rigorous application process, since the purchase was also backed by foreign money.
In 2025, MRC exposed how one of the stations within the Soros Radio Network, KCBS 740 AM, had unmasked the unmarked vehicles ICE agents were using during an operation in East San Jose, California, by giving exact descriptions and last known locations documented by the leftist pro-illegal immigration group Rapid Response Network. The anchor who spearheaded the coverage, Bret Burkhart, was later demoted, with the scandal ultimately culminating in his resignation following an FCC investigation.
2. REMAKING THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM: Spent $117 Million to Direct and Control at Least 126 Radical Prosecutors
MRC discovered through a year-long investigation that between local election spending and financing of extremist soft-on-crime nonprofits, Soros has spent a whopping $117 million towards installing, directing and controlling his radical district and state attorneys.
When MRC released its groundbreaking report in 2024, Law & Dis-Order: How The Soros Machine Directs and Controls Prosecutors Across America to Implement His Leftist Agenda, MRC researchers calculated that Soros’s fixation on remaking the American criminal justice system gave his network undue influence over the policies of at least 126 local and state prosecutors across the country. He even expressed his commitment to continue transforming the American criminal justice system when he wrote a July 2022 op-ed for The Wall Street Journal boasting that he would continue his “support” for “reform-minded prosecutors” despite growing criticism. “I have supported the election (and more recently the re-election) of prosecutors who support reform,” Soros wrote. “I have no intention of stopping.”
The Washington Post summarized Soros’s monetary involvement in a high profile 2022 district attorney’s race in Maine, that it was “among dozens around the country that Soros has bent to advance his criminal justice agenda, showing how a single billionaire can change the course of public policy.” In 2016, Politico reported that Soros was engaged in a “quiet overhaul of the U.S. justice system.” As the current state of lawfare in the U.S. has clearly shown, Soros has largely succeeded.
3. GLOBALIZING THE GREEN NEW DEAL: Spent $618 Million to Usher In an Eco-Utopia
Between the $193 million fortune funneled into at least 345 eco-extremist groups and hundreds of millions pledged in commitments between 2016 and 2024, the Open Society Foundations (OSF) under both the elder Soros and his son Alex’s leadership respectively have allocated at least a whopping $618,895,617 collectively toward exploiting the issue of climate change to overhaul global political structures into one, massive eco-utopia.
Arguably none of the green organizations Soros has pumped with cash exemplifies the Soros agenda more than the radical group C40 Cities, which identifies itself as a “global network of mayors of the world’s leading cities that are united in action to confront the climate crisis.” In its 2023 “Outcomes” report, C40 Cities — working directly alongside Soros’s Open Society Foundations — boasted how its Inclusive Climate Action (ICA) programme, which “sup-ports cities to ensure local climate policies and initiatives are designed in an inclusive way and have equitable impacts, launched the Global Green New Deal (GGND) pilot initiative to support cities in delivering the GGND principles.”
C40 Cities bragged how it partnered with OSF to “to target peer-to-peer engagement in 30+ champion cities across five regions. Nine of these cities were selected to serve as fivepilot projects, whereby C40 provides technical support in the form of designated city advisors.” The Soros strategy, co-opted by C40 Cities, was to institute the radical tenets of the Green New Deal from the bottom-up after the program failed to pass at the federal level in the U.S. Congress.
4. BUYING ELECTIONS: Spent $176 Million to Purchase the 2022 Midterms
Buying electoral outcomes is part of Soros’s modus operandi. During the 2022 midterm elections, Soros eclipsed all others in the donor class by claiming the crown as top political spender with $176,752,713 doled to outside groups to boost leftist candidates to stave off the projected “red wave.” The effort proved to be successful as Democrats drastically overperformed in their respective elections.
Soros has since been back to his old tricks by spending another $103.3 million at least so far to help Democrats take back control of Congress in the 2026 midterms, and until recently was again crowned top midterm donor and is still the top Democrat donor overall.
5. SPONSOR OF TERROR? Spent $80 Million on Pro-Terrorism Groups
Following the harrowing events of the October 7, 2023, genocide against Israel by terrorist organization Hamas, MRC was the first to uncover how Soros was funding organizations that openly celebrated the wanton murder, rape and pillaging the terrorists inflicted on Israeli civilians.
Around the same time, MRC was also the first to resurface a disturbing 2007 op-ed buried in the Soros website archives, where the billionaire demanded for the United States and Israel to “open the door” to Hamas in negotiations. This led other groups like the Capital Research Center to later reveal that Soros had fueled pro-terror organizations and others tied to extremist violence in the U.S. and abroad to the tune of $80 million at least, which later triggered a Department of Justice investigation.
6. BACKING THE CORRUPT: Spent $204 Million on Groups Pressuring Corporate Charities to Resume Donations to Disgraced Southern Poverty Law Center
Being “corrupt” is not a stain on your utility if you’re still useful to the "open society" agenda, such is the case with the Soros-funded Southern Poverty Law Center, which has become notorious for placing targets on conservatives and Christians’ backs for years.
The SPLC was recently indicted by a grand jury on multiple, damning charges of fraud, including charges for financing the very white supremacist and neo-Nazi groups it was claiming for years to be crusading against. After multiple corporate charities cut off the donation spigot to the SPLC, the Soros Network went to work. MRC discovered a letter sent by a number of leftist organizations to leadership at Fidelity Charitable, Vanguard Charitable and Charles Schwab Affiliate DAFgiving360 to bully them into turning the SPLC donations back on. At least 10 of the signatories to the letter received a whopping $204,505,779 from the Soros empire collectively between 2016 and 2024 alone.
At least three of the leftist Soros-backed powerhouse groups named in the letter — the New Venture Fund, the Hopewell Fund and the Windward Fund — were all previously part of the notorious dark money political giant Arabella Advisors, which dissolved in November 2025 after drawing a wave of legal scrutiny from the GOP-led Congress.
7. USHERING IN THE PEOPLE’S REPUBLIC OF NEW YORK: Spent $37 Million on Groups Backing Communist Zohran Mamdani
Soros may not be a communist in the direct sense, but he has no problem using avowed communist politicians in order to further his overarching, chaotic vendetta.
Part of that vendetta clearly involved overhauling New York City from the empire of capitalism to the 21st century experiment of American Communism. Soros spent at least $37 million on a litany of left-wing groups that were backing then-communist candidate Zohran Mamdani for the NYC mayorship. At least ten Soros-backed groups led get-out-the-vote efforts that helped Mamdani upset former New York governor Andrew Cuomo in the NYC Democratic primary, including the socialist extremist Working Families Party (WFP).
The New York Post reported July 12, 2025, that WFP “helped score Mamdani the Democratic line by brokering cross-endorsement deals that squeezed out Cuomo,” the Post reported. The entire Soros-backed cohort is backing Mamdani’s “Marxist agenda that includes advocating for criminal migrants and condemning Israel.” The end result? As former Southern District for New York federal prosecutor Jim Zirin pointed out August 26, 2026, Mamdani has made the city into an “unaffordable” nightmare.
8. SILENCING THE RIGHT: Spent $80 Million on Groups Pushing Big Tech Censorship Ahead of 2024 Presidential Election
Buying elections isn’t enough for the Soros empire. Silencing conservatives is also part of the brand.
In 2024, MRC uncovered an effort by radical Soros-backed media group Free Press — which claimed responsibility for helping get former President Donald Trump banned from Twitter in 2021 — to turn the screws on Big Tech to up the ante on their censorship operations ahead of the 2024 presidential election. In an open letter, anti-free speech groups raged at social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter (now X) and YouTube for reducing “interventions necessary to keep online platforms” allegedly “safe and healthy” and demanded “swift action” to protect so-called democracy. MRC research unveiled that at least 45 of the signatories have had their coffers packed with Soros cash to the tune of at least a whopping $80,757,329.
The letter was distributed to top executives at Big Tech platforms at Discord, Google, Instagram, Meta, Pinterest, Reddit, Rumble, Snap, TikTok, Twitch, YouTube and X (formerly Twitter).
9. A WORLDWIDE REPROGRAMMING: Committed more than $2.3 billion to Create a Global University Network to Brainwash the Next Generation
The Soros agenda wouldn’t be complete without brainwashing the next generation.
In 2022, MRC revealed that Soros had committed a combined sum of more than $2.3 billion to a global education juggernaut, split between his newfound creation –— the Open Society University Network (OSUN) — and the two Soros-backed educational institutions co-leading it: Central European University (which Soros founded himself ) and Bard College. Aside from the enormous funding doled out to CEU and Bard, Soros seeded OSUN with $1 billion, which has since been rebranded as the Global Higher Education Alliance for the 21st Century (GHEA21). At the time, OSUN (now GHEA21), had already swallowed up 41 institutions into its space to promote the Soros worldview, which included U.S. based organizations like Arizona State University, University of California, Berkeley Human Rights Center, and Columbia University’s Picker Center for Executive Education.
During a 2020 speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Soros boasted that he considered OSUN “to be the most important and enduring project of my life.” Ironically, Bard College professor emeritus of history Gennady Shkliarevsky rebuked his institution for joining with Soros’ political agenda for education. In 2020, he called Soros’s Open Society University Network the “making of an unholy alliance.” He further noted that “The motivation for creating the OSUN is political. The OSUN will use education as a tool for ideological and political purposes—to advance and promote the vision and ideology of open society. Combining education with ideological and political goals can amount to indoctrination.”
