AP Does Bogus 'Fact Check' of Jeb Bush's 4 Percent Growth Goal
June 17th, 2015 11:41 PM
It seems as if the establishment press has ruined virtually everything connected with journalism. The whole idea of "fact-checking" is certainly no exception.
The thoroughly misnamed Politifact pioneered this particular form of disinformation. The Associated Press, apparently determined to give that web site a run for its money, devoted a writeup to "fact-checking" (i.e., virtually ridiculing) a…

Business Press Mostly Fails to Note Protracted Fall in Production
June 15th, 2015 2:06 PM
Today's release from the Federal Reserve on industrial production (including mining and utilities) told us that it declined by a seasonally adjusted 0.2 percent in May. It was the sixth consecutive month showing a decline or no gain, during which time output has fallen by 1.1 percent (not annualized).
Bloomberg News, which reported that economists and analysts expected an increase of 0.2 percent…

Net Neutrality Hits the Web, The Media Misses -- Badly
June 15th, 2015 10:29 AM
As we’ve often discussed, the Tech Media is just as hopelessly Leftist and lost as the broader Jurassic Press.  They are both echo chambers - talking points and terrible ideas bounce with great rapidity around their tiny little worlds.  They are the Bubble Boys (and Girls) of news.
When a Tech Media story crosses over to the broader Jurassic Press - their ridiculous Leftist repetitiveness is…

Press Takes Artificially Pumped Retail Sales Growth As Gospel
June 14th, 2015 11:41 PM
On Thursday, the Census Bureau's report on May retail sales said that seasonally adjusted sales came in 1.2 percent higher than April. The press almost universally cited that result as demonstrating that the economy's rough patch earlier this year is likely over.
Yours truly and the contrarians at Zero Hedge both noted that the result is highly suspect, and doesn't adequately reflect the raw…

AP Treats Dem Former Governor Patrick's Slush Funds As a Local Story
June 14th, 2015 12:00 AM
The results of a search on the name of former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick at the Associated Press's main national site are revealing — both for what is there and what isn't. It's an understatment to say that the wire service's priorities are warped.
What isn't there is any news about the results of a Boston Herald investigation which found that "Patrick’s administration secretly…

AP Coverage of May Deficit Omits Debt Ceiling, Copies Previous Content
June 11th, 2015 4:31 PM
In addition to his usual tired historical revisionism, the Associated Press's Martin Crutsinger, in his report on May's budget deficit of $82 billion, failed to mention that the nation is once again operating at the legal limit of its authorized debt. Additionally, he mailed in his final five paragraphs, virtually copying what he wrote on May 12 in covering April's surplus.
The nation's debt…

AP Keeps Mosby's Name Out of Headline in Story Entirely About Her
June 10th, 2015 12:26 PM
Readers can be excused if they believe that the Associated Press might be more interested in protecting what little is left of Baltimore prosecutor Marilyn Mosby's credibility and reputation than they are in reporting the news.
Look at the vague headline about enhanced police presence in the area where Freddie Gray was arrested that Mosby herself requested at the AP story by Juliet Linderman:

Media Fail: Weak First Qtr. Economies Have Been a Democrat Phenomenon
June 8th, 2015 11:13 AM
The business press has gotten really excited about the possibility — some of them are even treating it as a probability — that the first-quarter's recently reported annualized economic contraction of 0.7 percent will go positive if it gets revised for so-called "residual seasonality."
"Residual seasonality" is "the manifestation of seasonal patterns in data that have already been seasonally…

Straw-Man Argument at Houston Chron: Frackers Want 'No Regulations'
June 7th, 2015 10:12 PM
After the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency issued a draft report on Thursday declaring that, in his own words, "The government has no public safety justification to ban" hyrdraulic fracturing, or fracking, Houston Chronicle business writer Chris Tomlinson falsely claimed that the industry believes it "needs no regulation."
Tomlinson formerly toiled at the Associated Press, and it shows. One…

Press Ignores Ohio's 28 Days of Early Voting As Hillary Attacks
June 6th, 2015 9:17 PM
Hillary's Clinton has called for what a Washington Post headline describes as a "sweeping expansion of voter access." While falsely accusing Republicans of preventing young people and minorities from voting, Mrs. Clinton is really pushing for widespread opportunities for fraud combined with a heavy dose of incumbent protection.
From reading the establishment press's coverage of Mrs. Clinton's "…

AP: Perry's Reference to God-Given Rights Is 'A Nod to the Tea Party'
June 5th, 2015 11:50 PM
On Thursday, the Associated Press's Will Weissert demonstrated that the ignorance of our nation's founding documents exhibited by Meredith Shiner at Yahoo Politics in March is not isolated to her.
Readers may recall that Shiner, reacting to Ted Cruz's presidential announcement speech, tweeted: "Bizarre to talk about how rights are God-made and not man-made in your speech announcing a POTUS bid?…

Press Fails to Note Steep Year-Over-Year Declines in Factory Orders
June 2nd, 2015 12:46 PM
This morning's April factory orders report from the Census Bureau showed yet another seasonally adjusted decline. This time, they fell 0.4 percent, seriously underperforming expectations that they would come in flat.
This naturally brought forth another sighting of the U-word ("unexpectedly"), this time at Reuters. Both Reuters and the Associated Press failed to note how steep the year-over-year…

AP Notes No Hurricanes for 9 Years; But What About Global Warming?
May 31st, 2015 10:24 PM
In a report on the relative infrequency of hurricanes in the U.S. during the past decade nationwide, and many decades in certain coastal areas, the Associated Press's Seth Borenstein detected a problem.
The problem is that those who contend that human-caused global warming is ruining our planet believe that hurricane frequency should be increasing, but it's not. So Borenstein tried to cover his…

Schieffer: Lack of Collegiality a Greater Danger Than Terrorism
May 31st, 2015 10:47 AM
Friday morning, Kyle Drennen at NewsBusters covered retiring Face the Nation host Bob Schieffer's appearance on CBS This Morning. Schieffer went into the same predictable whines seemingly every retiring establishment press reporter does as they're about to leave: there's too much money in politics, we can't control the news like we used to, congressional gridlock has never been worse, blah-blah-…
