On Monday, The New York Post’s Page Six reported that ABC’s Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts complained to The Cut magazine that her homosexuality created a “no win situation” [sic] for her ridiculous softball interview with Empire actor and accused hoaxer Jussie Smollett.

Good Morning America co-host Robin Roberts, the woman who refused to say the word “alleged” when interviewing Jussie Smollett, has suddenly discovered that there were “a lot of red flags” in the hate crimes case, now widely dismissed as a hoax. Roberts got a do-over as she interviewed Chicago’s superintendent of police, Eddie Johnson. 

On Tuesday, the website The Blast reported that Jussie Smollett specifically requested that Robin Roberts handle the interview because the two knew each other from when she appeared on an episode of Empire that aired last year. So let's take a look. On the April 11, 2018 episode, Roberts was much tougher on fictional Jamal Lyon (played by Smollett) than she was on Smollett in real life!

ABC’s Good Morning America team went into full damage control mode Monday, after news broke over the weekend that actor Jussie Smollett had allegedly paid two men to stage his assault. Just last Thursday, anchor Robin Roberts had given the actor a softball interview, even refusing to call his story of a Trump supporter assaulting him, “alleged.”
