With both the Republican and Democratic conventions now concluded, it’s time to judge the news media on how fairly they covered the two parties. Media Research Center analysts looked at various aspects of coverage, all of which demonstrate that journalists obviously favored the Democratic gathering.

Opening their Thursday night coverage of the Democratic National Convention (DNC), ABC’s voice-over announcer couldn’t help but produce one last gushing pump-up video as he proclaimed “here we are” for “[t]his one historic moment in front of America” and the on-air personalities applauded Chelsea Clinton emphasizing Hillary as a grandmother.

The journalists at ABC, CBS and NBC were beside themselves with gushing praise of Barack Obama’s address to the Democratic National Convention, Wednesday. Despite it drawing nowhere near the same levels of enthusiasm that other speeches drew in the 2016 Democratic National Convention (DNC) thus far, the “big three” networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC went into full spin mode late Wednesday hailing vice presidential nominee Tim Kaine’s personality as a “suburban dad” whose “extraordinary” Spanish-speaking skills made for “a Spanish lesson down here.”

On Tuesday night, the major broadcast networks were quick to laud former President Bill Clinton’s speech at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) as “heartwarming” and “the most important speech of his life” featuring “vintage Bill” that was akin to him “telling a family story at bar or around the dinner table at a holiday.”  

The “big three” networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC were hard pressed for time on Monday night to comment on speeches at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) by Senators Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (Vt.), but there was time after First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech to gush over her “artfully painted” address featuring “trademark...grace” in attacking Donald Trump.

Longtime Democratic operative Donna Brazile being named interim head of the Democratic National Committee on Sunday following the ouster of chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz amid the DNC e-mail scandal created some awkward moments for CNN and ABC. The three networks on Thursday night immediately derided Donald Trump’s “dark speech” as one coming from a “vengeful” “demagogue.” On NBC, Tom Brokaw allowed that “some” will see Trump as on a “white horse who will lead them to some kind of sanctuary and then pull the drawbridge up.” But he sneered, “Others looking in are going to see someone they will only think as a demagogue of some kind.” 

When a lone protester from the anti-American, far-left group Code Pink tried to make noise in the crowd at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Tuesday night, the “big three” networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC tag-teamed with MSNBC to spent nearly six minutes showing and discussing the “scrappy” protester.
