OWN’s Greenleaf, a drama that centers around mega-church Calvary World Ministries and the family who runs it (the Greenleafs), has featured the story of husband Kevin Saterlee (Tye White) and his struggle with gay desires since last season.

After CBS Late Show host Stephen Colbert launched into and vicious and vulgar tantrum against President Trump Monday night, the broadcast networks were initially silent on the controversy swirling around the left-wing comedian. However, that silence was broken Wednesday morning when NBC’s Today actually provided a full report on the backlash against the “crude” tirade.

CBS’s Superior Donuts has had its fair share of race-baiting, anti-police bias, and other clearly questionable opinions over the past season. Fortunately, this week’s episode gave viewers a quick grab bag of several questionable, off-putting, and just plain wrong moments for the whole family.

In 1997, the media climate was not nearly as welcoming to LGBT people as it is now; however, as proven by the countless articles published commemorating her bravery, times have clearly changed. Today, LGBT content is not only accepted, but celebrated. 

It’s prom season, and BuzzFeed is throwing a party of its own – a queer celebration to promote the concept that “normal is relative.” For the website’s video producer and development partner Eugene Yang, the crowning dance was just another “night of normativity.” That’s because, as a gay teen, he felt the weight of heteronormative convention demanding that he take a girl to the big night.  

Hulu’s new show Harlots has been hard to stomach from the start. Both for its sexual depravity and raw, gritty depiction of the underbelly of the world of prostitution in 1700’s London. This is not a “pretty” version of the life of harlots, if there ever could be one.

Just like entertainment media, advertisements have the power to both shape and reflect the culture. While capitalizing on social trends, brand experts are pushing to mainstream controversial themes – and Dove soap is the latest to participate with a transgender star. Earlier this month, Dove released an ad with a transgender “mother” as part of its new #RealMoms campaign celebrating motherhood.
