'Very Normal': The View Defends Jackson Taking It Easy on Pedophiles, Child Porn Sentences

March 22nd, 2022 4:19 PM

On day two of her Supreme Court confirmation process, Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson was forced to defend her position of giving pedophiles and child porn offenders lighter sentences. Her argument entailed loosening the sentences for those with less child porn because there were some with more of it. Despite this questionable argument, the cast of The View spent part of their Tuesday show vehemently defending it by calling it “very normal.”

“But, of course, yesterday some Republicans whose names you know, used their time at the hearing to bitch,” co-host Whoopi Goldberg whined. “They put their grievances out there – grievances from like 1910 all the way up to yesterday. And take a listen to what was said.”

Playing off of that resentment for Republicans, co-host Sara Haines claimed Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) took “the mic to troll her a little bit about every other hearing that's ever gone on in the history of time” and “robbed” Americans from seeing a serious hearing with all this scrutiny of Jackson’s record.

She then went on to suggest that looking at her rulings in child porn cases was part of that supposed robbery.

Haines suggested that if “you actually look into it, even for one minute” you would understand that Jackson’s leniency “falls within a very normal spectrum of how she has – they’ve corrected their guidelines for what the law has not caught up in with technology.”

The View co-host(s) never explained why those with a relatively small amount of child porn (let alone any at all) should get lesser sentences instead of keeping that sentence the same while increasing the sentences for those with more of it.

But that simple question didn’t stop Haines from becoming indignant of the grilling Jackson received:

But the look on her face – Because the worst thing – the most triggering crime for me is pedophilia and child pornography, just as a human. I didn’t need to be parent to be disgusted by that. To look at this woman with how respectable she is as you're watching them grill her on that, you can see this visceral reaction. And she did what a Supreme Court justice – a future Supreme Court justice should do, she stayed there steady as ever and deliberate.

“But I thought I would not have had the self-control to like ‘are you seriously asking me that’ on the heels of describing her beautiful family, by the way, that was all there to support her,” she bemoaned.

While they were nearing the end of the segment, Goldberg and co-host Joy Behar took issue with Republicans supposedly resorting to “political theater because they want to show up what was done to the last two.”

“But she's not been really accused of sexual impropriety,” Behar declared, referring to Justices Clarence Thomas and Brett Kavanaugh. And according to her, mere accusations (which are proven lies) constitute the committing of “a crime.” “Used to be,” Goldberg scoffed.

“She's been accused of nothing,” Haines screeched, ignoring the accusations of going easy on pedophiles.

Behar concluded the segment by demanding: “The point is there's no equivalency there. And so they should that stop that now!”

This disturbing defense of loosening sentences for sex crimes with children was made possible because of lucrative sponsorships from Coventry Direct and Olay. Their contact information is linked.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: But, of course, yesterday some Republicans whose names you know, used their time at the hearing to bitch. Okay? They put their grievances out there – grievances from like 1910 all the way up to yesterday. And take a listen to what was said.

[Cuts to video]

SEN. TED CRUZ (R-TX): No one is going to ask you with mock severity “do you like beer?”

SEN. LINDSEY GRAHAM (R-SC): This is a new game for the Supreme Court. And this game is particularly disturbing to me. Because there's been a wholesale effort of the left to take down a nominee from my state.

SEN. MARSHA BLACKBURN (R-TN): I can only wonder what's your hidden agenda. Is it to let violent criminals, cop killers, child predators back to the streets? Is it to restrict parental rights and expand government’s reach into our schools and our private family decisions? Is it to support the radical left's attempt to pack the Supreme Court?

[Cuts back to live]

JOY BEHAR: What?

GOLDBERG: Yeah. Listen, you knew this was coming. You knew this was coming. They said this is what they were going to do. So, can't be a big surprise. Do you think that this is going to go on all week?

BEHAR: Probably.

SARA HAINES: I know we’re going to Critical Race Theory as the show does on, but in regard right now to this hearing, when I left the TV, they were taking a lot of the time we could be hearing about Judge Brown's record and a lot of her thoughts and philosophies, which was what I remember about these hearings. You constantly hear tough questions and they answer.

Right now, Senator Graham was taking the mic to troll her a little bit about every other hearing that's ever gone on in the history of time. And it felt like we were being robbed in seeing a future Supreme Court justice tell us who she is.

BEHAR: Grassley asked the stupidest question I thought.

SUNNY HOSTIN: What was his question?

BEHAR: He goes, I mean, he says, ‘so, justice -- judge, do you believe that the First Amendment applies equally to conservatives as well as liberals?”

HOSTIN: Oh, he did ask that.

BEHAR: What a dumb question. She had like a look on her face like, “man, are you stupid.”

HAINES: She’d gotten some really tough questions though, because the part that – this emphasis – which we talked about yesterday a little bit – on child pornography. When you actually look into it, even for one minute, you see she falls within a very normal spectrum of how she has – they’ve corrected their guidelines for what the law has not caught up in with technology.

But the look on her face – Because the worst thing – the most triggering crime for me is pedophilia and child pornography, just as a human. I didn’t need to be parent to be disgusted by that. But I thought I would not have had the self-control to like “are you seriously asking me that” on the heels of describing her beautiful family, by the way, that was all there to support her.

HOSTIN: It's unfortunate that Republicans are taking this opportunity to air grievances.

GOLDBERG: And you know, the other side needs the political theater because they want to show up what was done to the last two.

BEHAR: To that point, they talk about the comparisons about how she's being treated as to how Kavanaugh and Clarence Thomas were treated. But she's not been really accused of sexual impropriety.

HAINES: She's been accused of nothing.

BEHAR: They have. Which means that's something like on the verge of being a crime. I mean, I don't know if it is or not.

GOLDBERG: Used to be.

BEHAR: The point is there's no equivalency there. And so they should that stop that now!
