Co-host Meghan McCain called out her liberal co-hosts and Democrats for defending Senator Elizabeth Warren, on Tuesday’s The View, after Warren released DNA test results showing she greatly exaggerated her Native American heritage. After Whoopi Goldberg went out of her way to defend Warren’s claims, and Joy Behar claimed Warren’s tall tale didn’t matter, McCain argued that they and their fellow Democrats would’ve been singing a different tune had a Republican made these same claims about heritage.
Sharing the President’s reply to Warren denying he was going to pay money for her charity, Whoopi claimed it was time for President Trump to pay up. “I think you owe her some money,” Whoopi chuckled. Fellow co-host Sunny Hostin agreed but somehow made this about Trump not releasing his tax returns:
[S]he was an expert on the finances of the middle class and how to, you know, empower the middle class. She should have said to him, I'm an expert in bankruptcy. Do me a favor. Release your income taxes. Let me review them and then I'll take a DNA test.
“I don't know why any politician thinks they can outbully Trump,” co-host Abby Huntsman stated. But she called this whole exchange “embarrassing” for Warren. “I found this to be pretty embarrassing for her. I think the majority of this room right here is probably more Native American than Elizabeth Warren is,” she argued.
“No, no, no. Don't twist this!” Whoopi slammed, coming to Warren’s defense:
“She was not looking to prove she was part of the tribe,” Whoopi said. But McCain pointed out how Warren profited off her story:
But she listed herself in a minority in the American Association of Law Schools. Harvard Law School listed her as several minorities in 1996, and she contributed recipes for a cookbook that passed through the tribe families. She may be less native American than the average U.S. white person anywhere from .09% to .5%. This is a story she has told.
Whoopi weirdly came to Warren’s defense yet again, reading off her note card:
Let me point something out. In 2012, a genealogist at the New England Historic and Genealogy Society said he found an 1894 document listing Warren's great-great-great grandmother as being at least part Cherokee. That would make her 1/32 Native American.
Joy Behar finally jumped in, calling it “irrelevant,” saying they were missing the point. “Republicans are threatening healthcare!” she gushed. “It's much more important to not focus on stupid topics like this,” she added.
“It's not stupid,” McCain retorted, calling out her fellow co-hosts and Democrats for holding a double standard:
MEGHAN MCCAIN: If this were a Republican right now if this were Ted Cruz saying he was Native American, and it came out he was .009%, all of you would be going crazy. I say that with respect, but you would.
JOY BEHAR: You don’t know that.
MCCAIN: Okay, I believe a lot of Democrats would be going crazy then.
After Behar said this was “really a dog whistle to the Republican party” about affirmative action, Whoopi cut to commercial.
