The demands from our mainstream media and various Democrat politicians began almost as soon as the details of the Nashville shooting came clear. Some examples:
NewsBusters’ own Curtis Houck headlined:
CBS’s King Unhinged: ‘We Value Guns’ Over Kids, So We Need to Ban Them, NOT Books
That would be CBS morning anchor Gayle King demanding a gun ban.
CNN headlined this:
Another mass shooting highlights America's stubborn gun control divide
The Daily Caller headlined:
Dems, Media, Celebrities Call For Gun Control Hours After Nashville School Shooting
After running through the always-predictable calls for gun control from various Democratic pols, the DC noted:
Media figures and celebrities also joined in the call for banning “assault weapons.
And on and on this went. With one very, very notable fact left out.
Take the demand from CBS’s Gayle King. There she is demanding Americans give up their guns. And where, pray tell, is she saying this? From the safety of a CBS studio in a building that, you can be sure, has one or more gun-toting security guards at its entrance.
As someone who has spent a fair amount of time in television studios in New York and Washington I can report that the very first person I encountered when entering the building that headquartered network studios was, yes indeed, a guard - or multiple guards - with a gun.
And speaking of all those Democrats in Congress? They make plain their sentiments on banning guns for Americans. Here, to cite but one example, was this as reported by ABC7 Eyewitness News:
House Democrat calls GOP 'cowards' on gun control, gets into tense exchange with opposing lawmaker
"More guns lead to more death!" Jamaal Bowman yelled at colleague Thomas Massie.
The story reported:
WASHINGTON -- A Democratic lawmaker who was screaming about Republicans' approach to gun violence just off the House floor on Wednesday soon got into a tense altercation with one of his conservative colleagues.
An animated Rep. Jamaal Bowman, D-N.Y., a former principal, came off the floor and began telling reporters to continue to press GOP members on their views on the issue of guns and shootings.
‘Please ask them. Don't let them off the hook,’ Bowman said.
‘Ask them about gun violence. What are they doing about it? Nothing!’ he continued to yell as colleagues exited the floor.
‘They don't have the courage,’ he insisted. ‘They're cowards.’ Though most members just walked past Bowman as he was screaming for about five minutes -- aside from the occasional applause from Democratic members -- Rep. Thomas Massie, a Republican from Kentucky, decided to engage.
‘What are you talking about?’ he asked.
‘I'm talking about gun violence,’ Bowman responded.
‘You know there's never been a school shooting in a school that allows teachers to carry,’ Massie tried to argue.
‘Carry guns! You think-- More guns lead to more death!’ Bowman retorted.
Well isn’t that rich? There is Rep. Bowman shrieking all this - as he and every other Member of Congress work daily in the Capitol and surrounding House and Senate office buildings that are swarming with - yes indeed - gun-carrying Capitol Police officers. Bowman has specifically called his Republican colleagues cowards for not supporting gun control. Which raises the obvious question: Is Congressman Bowman a coward for refusing to give up the gun-carrying Capitol Police that protect him?
Indeed, the January 6 episode that was memorably captured on video shows a gun toting Capitol Police officer shooting an unarmed protesting Ashli Babbitt to death.
So much for gun control in the Capitol.
Of the various issues that always race to the surface when a mass shooting occurs, the one curiously least discussed is that those in the media and Congress are always demanding someone else be forced to give up their guns while they themselves are operating safely in a gun-guarded safe space. CBS, CNN, MSNBC etc etc - pick one.
MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough is out there saying “enough is enough” when it comes to guns, yet falls mysteriously silent about his own MSNBC and NBC using guards with guns to protect its employees. So too is MSNBC’s Katy Tur silent as a church mouse about whether gun-toting security guards are being used at MSNBC.
So too are the ladies of The View curiously silent. Where are Whoopi Goldberg and Joy Behar and the rest demanding ABC drop its gun carrying security that is presumably protecting the ABC building where The View is broadcast?
Over there at Comedy Central, guest host John Leguizamo raged at GOP Congressman Tim Burchett (TN) for saying of gun violence: “We’re not gonna fix it. Criminals are gonna be criminals.”
Comedy Central is owned by Paramount. Paramount studios, famously, gives tours to the visiting public and provides space for filmmakers. On its site Paramount goes out of its way to say that it provides “24-hour patrols and a thorough screening of all guests.” Really? Any of those 24-hour security patrols carrying guns? John Leguizamo apparently is not interested in discussing. It’s just easier to yell at a GOP Congressman.
And as Rep. Bowman himself just illustrated, the Congressman adamantly opposes providing teachers in schools with guns to protect school children - but makes no move to demand the Capitol Police surrounding him give up theirs.
In other words, the message from all these supposedly anti-gun media types and Democrats in Congress like Congressman Bowman is simple.
“Guns for me but not for thee.”
The hypocrisy from the media and Democrats in Congress over guns doesn’t get much richer then that.
