ESPN’s popular mid-day show “His and Hers” would have impressed MSNBC with its outrageous claims of racism while discussing for two full segments the shooting of Michael Brown.
Regular Hosts Michael Smith and Jemele Hill were joined by former NFL Coach Herm Edwards, and NBA Analyst Chris Broussard and the discussion quickly turned into a flurry of falsities and cries of racial injustice.
Jemele Hill, best know for comparing teams to Adolf Hitler, and coaches to Charles Manson got the conversation started claiming Officer Darren Wilson’s testimony “was racial pornography for America.” Hill claimed, “Wilson created a false image saying he (Michael Brown) was Six Foot Four, and I felt small. That language was clearly used to portray a certain image.”
Except that Michael Brown really was 6’4”.
Hill added, “This is the same language that was used with Trayvon Martin. All I know, is Trayvon Martin was on the way to the store, on his way back, and George Zimmerman had a gun and was looking for something else. They (Martin and Brown) were unarmed, they weren’t causing any trouble and now they are dead.” Not sure the shopkeeper Brown roughed up while stealing cigars would concur.
Chris Broussard “completely agreed” with Hill’s narrative and was not to be outdone by in the ridiculous comments department. “I googled unarmed white man shot by police, and you know what came up? Black victims.” Broussard added, “I can’t name one unarmed white person shot by police.”
Well Chris, that would be expected a day after one of the biggest new stories of the year was, “a decision in a case when an unarmed black man killed by a white police officer,” considering Google searches for a group of words in news stories.
In any case, it’s not true. Minutes after Broussard’s absurd claim, I googgled “unarmed white man shot by police, and the first story was about (wait for it!) an unarmed white man shot by police. His name was Dillon Taylor. In fact out of the twelve results on the first page, eight included a white unarmed man shot by police.
Michael Smith then excused the riots in Ferguson Monday Night. “Riot is the language of the unheard, you hear a lot of people say calm and peace, that’s all and well and good, but there should be some more compassion in the commentary.” Smith said. “You should understand the conditions that prompted people to act this way.”
Smith also took offense to Michael Brown being called a man. “We are talking about a child. Just like Michael Eric Dyson says black men are looked at as boys black boys, while black boys are tried as men.” At 18, Brown was old enough to serve in the military, vote, drive a car, etc. And again, 6’4” …
Jemele Hill added she continues to run over and over in her mind, “I just hate that the man who engaged in those mass killing in Aurora (Colorado) who killed twelve people is alive, and Michael Brown who stole cigarillos is dead. There just seems to be a mentality in our society that it’s ok to demonize, and destroy, and kill, or black men period.”
