Soros-Funded Fake News Op Courier Newsroom Already Wreaking Midterm Campaign Ad Havoc

The George Soros regime is kicking into high-gear to pepper the airwaves with fake news to swing the midterm election to Democrats.

Courier Newsroom — a lefty fake news collective funded by Soros to the tune of at least $20 million — has been seeping into the messaging of a litany of campaign ads used by Democrat “candidates and political action committees,” according to a new report by the censorial NewsGuard, which apparently discovered that leftist disinformation operations was actually a thing.

This week, the outfit reportedly “identified seven video ads for key races in Iowa, Ohio, and Alabama featuring on-screen citations of” what it dubs as “pink slime websites.” Courier became particularly notorious for spreading mass amounts of false information in past elections to manipulate voters at the behest of its rabid, anti-Trump founder and Democrat strategist Tara McGowan.

In one campaign ad by the liberal Government That Works PAC, the lefty group attempted to “to link U.S. Rep. Ashley Hinson, a Republican in Iowa’s U.S. Senate election, to policies that threaten Iowans’ rural way of life while promoting her Democratic opponent, state Rep. Josh Turek,” NewsGuard said.

It continued, “Near the end of the ad, a caption appears on-screen stating: “‘Josh Turek launches rural Iowa plan’ - Iowa Starting Line.” Iowa Starting Line is one of Courier's fake news outlets in operation and among the twenty total circulating content across the country. Iowa Starting Line has actively promoted Government That Works PAC’s ads smearing Hinson and endorsing Turek. Recently, NewsGuard exposed Courier Newsroom exploiting TikTok as one of its primary vehicles to sway voters. Specifically,  NewsGuard found that “Across 21 TikTok accounts — one for each state that Courier covers, plus a nationally focused account — Courier has generated an audience of 4.3 million followers and has collectively received 665.5 million likes on its videos.” Its national account boasts 3.7 million followers, which is a significantly higher following “than @washingtonpost’s 2.1 million and almost as many as @nytimes’s 3.9 million.”

Apparently, per NewsGuard, Courier Newsroom isn’t the only player in the fake news game for these midterms:

In Ohio, liberal super PAC WinSenate cited coverage from Ohio Capital Journal in an ad criticizing incumbent U.S. Sen. Jon Husted, a Republican running against Democrat Sherrod Brown in Ohio’s U.S. Senate race.  Ohio Capital Journal is one of 40 local affiliates of States Newsroom, a nonprofit that received early support from the Hopewell Fund, a Washington-based 501(c)(3) liberal nonprofit managed by Arabella Advisors, a now-defunct consulting firm that specialized in left-leaning philanthropy. Arabella once operated a network of nonprofits ‘at the core of a liberal dark money network,’ according to a December 2021 report from OpenSecrets.org.

However, NewsGuard couldn’t keep from going back to its old habits of attacking the right. It also identified the conservative, Alabama-based Yellowhammer News as one of the “pink slime” outlets trying to manipulate elections. The problem? Yellowhammer doesn’t fit NewsGuard’s own definition of “pink slime,” which it describes as “sites that present themselves as professional news outlets but are secretly backed by partisan groups with a clear though undisclosed agenda.”

The problem is that Yellowhammer News has explicitly disclosed itself as “conservative” in nature. When entrepreneur Allison Ross assumed ownership of Yellowhammer in 2017, she disclosed in a published comment on the site that “Yellowhammer has positioned itself as Alabama’s premier source for conservative news, opinion, and analysis.”

In 2018, then-Yellowhammer editor J. Pepper Bryars wrote in a column that “Yellowhammer News is gaining readers, growing in influence, and bringing the conservative movement together in Alabama.” How that somehow fits NewsGuard’s idea of an “undisclosed agenda” defies logic.
