A relatively talented actor like Andrew Garfield may know how to read a script, but he sure didn't think before uttering a lefty trope amid the PR tour for his latest movie.
The Spider-Man-turned-Robin Hood actor went on a Marxist tear against billionaires ahead of the release of his Nottingham legend origin story, The Uprising.
During a September 3 Q&A session, he said: “And I hope that if any billionaires watch it, that they're scared s***less.” Garfield, whose net worth is at least $16 million, snorted alongside the film’s director Paul Greengrass.
Even more stupid was Garfield’s soft instigation that the flick would spark some proletariat revolt against the bourgeoisie, of which he is clearly a member. “I hope it's galvanizing,” Garfield sneered.
The irony, as IGN noted, was that the entire pretext for Garfield’s film was based on “the Peasants' Revolt of 1381, which was fueled by King Richard II’s brutal tax on the poorest members of English society.” That sounds a lot more like a government tyranny issue than capitalist exploitation, but that apparently was lost on the hypocritical multimillionaire actor, who was apparently hoping to start a real-life revolution or something:
I hope there's some awakening that people feel, that we all feel like our own struggles are being reflected in the struggles of these characters from a distant time and place, and that it could be directive.
