For his first post-Writers’ Strike guest, ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel welcomed Arnold Schwarzenegger to discuss his favorite topic: Donald Trump’s weight. Schwarzenegger would also insist that he is still a Republican by offering up left-wing causes such as climate activism and “universal health care” as reasons why.
Kimmel really does love the topic of Trump’s weight. During the strike, he admitted it was the topic he most wanted to be on the air to joke about and he had already brought it up in his monologue, so he naturally brought it up with Schwarzenegger, “I want to ask you a quick question about Donald Trump, because, you know, you guys both hosted The Apprentice, you don't necessarily see eye to eye on most things. He listed his weight at 215 pounds. Now, you are one of the foremost experts on the male physique, bodybuilding, et cetera. When you size him up, what would you guess that that man weighs?”
Schwarzenegger also got in on the action, “You know, I don't really know how much he weighs. I can tell you one thing. That if he would ask me what should he do for fitness, I would just say run around yourself three times and you're going to be in great, great shape.”
Asked if he think it is possible Trump actually weighs 215 pounds, Schwarzenegger quipped, “Yes, as much as it is possible that there is no climate change. As much as is possible that we don't really need to reduce pollution in order--. I mean, look, we all know that the way he is. And if it makes him feel good to, you know, tell everyone he weighs 215, I think everyone laughs about it because he does not look like he weighs 215. I mean, it looks a little bit more like, maybe, 315.”
References to climate change led Kimmel to change the subject, “When you mentioned climate change and when I hear you talk about things, I always have to remind myself that you're technically a Republican, because it doesn't seem like you're a Republican, on a lot of important things. Like climate change is one of them and what do you think when you look at the party and what's going on right now in Congress. Do you think -- do you think of yourself as a Republican still?”
Schwarzenegger replied that he does, “I'm a proud Republican. And I tell you why, because I'm a traditional Republican. Remember that the one that put most of the land aside for future generations was Teddy Roosevelt. He was a Republican. The-- Ronald Reagan created the Air Resources Board in California. Most important board in order to really be able to execute all the things, all the laws that we pass. President Nixon created the EPA, the Environmental Protection Agency in Washington.”
What do any of those have to do with today’s calls to ban fossil fuels or repeatedly wrong Doomsday predictions?
As it was, Schwarzenegger continued his praise of the 37th president, “He wanted to—President Nixon wanted to do universal health care. So, these were people who were sane Republicans and that really were thinking more about what was good for the people rather than being stuck in the ideological corners.”
By “universal,” Schwarzegger means either tremendously expensive and unaffordable state-run health care or some Obamacare-like mandate where the state compels you purchase a given product which sounds more like something Bernie Sanders supports.
