It was only a few weeks ago that former White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki lied when she said that no Democrat supports late term abortion. Yet here we are with another democratic leader who refuses to say when he thinks abortion access should be cut off.
In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) refused to say that there should be any limit on abortion whatsoever. Despite the fact that Bash pressed Newsom on the issue multiple times, he never answered and instead called protections for unborn babies “a political canard.”
The interview took place as part of a CNN Exclusive, which aired Monday night. A clip of the interview was posted on Twitter and has gained lots of attention on the platform.

For starters, Bash asked Newsom, “Can you just be clear about what limits on abortion should be?” Newsom then insisted that people “are not seeking abortion.” This is coming from the same man who put up billboards in red states in an attempt to entice people to California to get abortions.
“What is the policy? What should it be?” Bash asked again.
Newsom then said the decision is up “to women.”
Now, I’ll give credit where credit is due, Bash probed Newsom with this next line.
“So, is it the government’s role then,” Bash began, “you said it’s up to women so there should be nothing on the books?”
Newsom still didn’t answer the question about when, if any, abortion should be prohibited during a pregnancy and blabbered on about opponents who “don’t believe in fundamental choice and freedom of women.”
Uh, how about the freedom of girls in the womb who want to live outside the womb one day?
Newsom then tried bashing Republicans who point out that there are Democrats who support late term and after-birth abortions. Newsom denied these claims insisting “those examples are so extreme” and “so rare.”
“I just want to be clear because people are going to be listening very carefully to what you’re saying. You do not believe that it is the role of government nationally or state government to have any limits on the books, legally,” Bash said before she was rudely interrupted.
Newsom claimed “no one wants to see late, late term abortions. No one’s out there promoting that." Yes they are, but I digress. He still didn’t say he’d support any limit on abortion.
As a final jab, he called pregnant women “would-be mother[s]” when he reiterated that he has no place to decide when a woman can and cannot kill her kid, again leaving us with no actual answer.
“I call BS on this whole debate. It is purely political canard,” Newsom added.
As a result, numerous Twitter users blasted Newsom for his skirting of the answer.
“In other words, @GavinNewsom supports late term abortion. The only one who doesn't get a say is the baby,” a user wrote below a video post of the segment.
“Satanic,” said another while one individual pointed out Newsom’s hypocrisy. “Funny how he doesn’t want to get involved with this and saying it’s up to the families to decide but when it comes to the vaccine and lgbtq stuff they want to make the choices for the families. Hypocrisy at its finest.”
Fox News "Outnumbered" host Kayleigh McEnany shared the video and bashed Newsom and other Democrats who seem to support abortion until birth.
“A baby feeling pain is totally irrelevant in his calculus. It’s all a ‘political canard.’ This is Democrats endorsing abortion until birth. Listen to their words,” McEnany wrote on Twitter.
The interview with Bash reminds us of another segment where CBS’s "Face The Nation" show featured Vice President Kamala Harris and she too refused to name a single limit or cap on abortion access.
Newsom, like Harris, is yet another example of someone who’s negligence to answer may be exactly the answer we were dreading.
