The horrific California wildfires have left many stories in their terrifying wake: some heartbreaking, some inspirational, with many more to be told as the fires continue to burn. In addition to reporting these, the media seem bent on telling another story: that of Governor Gavin Newsom as a competent state executive completely in control and proactively responding to the fires.

Friday’s edition of Washington Week with The Atlantic played defense for the Democratic Party in California over the raging wildfires that have destroyed tens of thousands of acres and thousands of houses, with one panelist in particular taking the time to chiding Trump and call Republicans liars for daring to point out the obvious failures of human response. 

Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis, as usual, hit the nail right on the head the other day.

On Friday morning in his Substack, our friend Erick Erickson wrote that the national media’s Trump-focused and Democratic-defensive coverage of the California wildfires has led him to believe “[i]t’s time to let the press hit rock bottom” and even had him “starting to wish ill on the American press” even though “[t]he country needs it” and the powerful deserve to be held to account.

As the Los Angeles-area wildfires continue to burn, the leftist media have found almost every possible way to explain what caused them, while ignoring the obvious facts. On Wednesday’s The 11th Hour, MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle brought in University of Pennsylvania professor and longtime climate alarmist Dr. Michael Mann to hypothesize about the fires as a direct effect of climate change…

As the Los Angeles wildfires rage on, the corporate media are compelled to cover some of the issues that have emerged. But as we see with NBC’s coverage of the shortage of water for fire hydrants, there is a reluctance to cover underlying political incompetence. 

On Wednesday morning, President-elect Trump weighed in on the fires raging through Los Angeles County, blaming California Governor Gavin Newsom for the disaster. During an Inside Politics panel discussion on the matter, CNN’s Nia-Malika Henderson accused Trump of having “no sense that Californians are Americans” and lacking empathy because of his feuds with “Democrat[s] in general.”…
