How desperate were the cast of CBS Mornings to promote the left’s abortion-on-demand agenda? Well, the fact that they were openly promoting an abortionist in Amsterdam who openly admits to providing abortion pills to women seeking abortions in American states where it was illegal. Even openly advertising how their viewers can get illegal abortions wasn’t off-limits for the leftist media.
Correspondent Haley Ott spoke to a foreign abortionist Dr. Rebecca Gomperts whose organization “Aid Access helps Americans get abortions, even though they are thousands of miles apart.”
“In other countries, it’s not controversial and abortion is recognized as a human rights,” Gomperts bragged. Of course, Ott omitted the fact that most European countries have 12-week abortion bans which were more stringent than the 15-week bans several states had enacted.
“Experts say Aid Access is a significant provider of abortion pills for people in states with restrictive abortion laws, meaning many who seek out medication abortions in those states will be getting a prescription from a doctor in this European city,” Ott revealed before explaining how the scheme works:
Someone seeking an abortion in the US fills out an online form, which depending on what state they are in is reviewed by a healthcare professional at home or in The Netherlands. They get a prescription for abortion pills that can be filled domestically or at an Aid Access recommended pharmacy in India and the pills are mailed to them. Dr. Gomperts says demand has skyrocketed since Roe v. Wade was overturned last year.
As an additional bit of encouragement to their viewers, Ott interviewed Professor Greer Donley from the University of Pittsburgh who explained that “if the states or federal government don’t have jurisdiction to really go after those people, then just because it’s illegal doesn’t mean it’s actually going to stop.”
“So even though somebody outside the US might be breaking the law by prescribing abortion pills, there’s no way the law can reach them,” Ott exclaimed.
“Aid Access has a growing network of American clinicians, shielded by new state laws that are able to prescribe abortion pills at home,” Ott added.

[ON-SCREEN HEADLINE: Overseas Abortion Help; European Doctor Helps American Women Get Access to Abortion Pill]
KING: The issue of abortion pills in America returns to the courts today. A federal appeals court holds a hearing to reconsider a judge’s ruling that the abortion drug, mifepristone was wrongly approved by the FDA. Meanwhile, with abortion now banned in some states, more Americans are seeking abortion pills from Europe. CBS News’s Haley Ott spoke to a doctor in the Netherlands who is providing them.
HALEY OTT: Amsterdam’s historic squares and narrow canals are just part of the morning commute for Dr. Rebecca Gomperts.
DR. REBECCA GOMPERTS: I don’t live very far away.
OTT: Her organization, Aid Access helps Americans get abortions, even though they are thousands of miles apart.
GOMPERTS: In other countries, it’s not controversial and abortion is recognized as a human rights.
OTT: Experts say Aid Access is a significant provider of abortion pills for people in states with restrictive abortion laws, meaning many who seek out medication abortions in those states will be getting a prescriptions from a doctor in this European city. Here is how it works: Someone seeking an abortion in the US fills out an online form, which depending on what state they are in is reviewed by a healthcare professional at home or in The Netherlands. They get a prescription for abortion pills that can be filled domestically or at an Aid Access recommended pharmacy in India and the pills are mailed to them. Dr. Gomperts says demand has skyrocketed since Roe v. Wade was overturned last year.
GOMPERTS: So we have seen an enormous increase in requests and especially of course from the states where there are restrictions and I think, at this moment, we’re seeing between a thousand and fifteen hundred requests per day.
OTT: The FDA says that medication abortion which in the US involves taking the drugs mifepristone and misoprostol is safe and it is approved in over 80 other countries. But Aid Access is working in a legal gray area. Professor Greer Donley from the University of Pittsburgh specializes in abortion law.
UNIVERSITY OF PITTSBURGH’s GREER DONLEY: And if the states or federal government don’t have jurisdiction to really go after those people, then just because it’s illegal doesn’t mean it’s actually going to stop.
OTT: So even though somebody outside the US might be breaking the law by prescribing abortion pills, there’s no way the law can reach them.
DONLEY: Exactly.
OTT: Donley says an FDA personal use exemption may apply to Americans ordering abortion pills from overseas. In 2019, the FDA sent Aid Access a warning letter, but Gomperts sued in response and the regulatory agency took no enforcement action. The FDA did not respond to our request for comment. As far as Dr. Gomperts is concerned, she is just doing her job.
GOMPERTS: I’m acting in accordance with my medical professional oath that I am supposed to make sure that people that need medical care, that they will get it. That’s what I do and that is my laws and my conscience that I abide to.
OTT: Aid Access has a growing network of American clinicians, shielded by new state laws that are able to prescribe abortion pills at home.
PROTESTERS: Our bodies, our choice!
OTT: But while the future of mifepristone hangs in the balance of the courts, Gomperts says her European operation won’t be going anywhere. For CBS Mornings, Haley Ott, Amsterdam.
