Golden State Warriors head basketball coach and gun control fanatic Steve Kerr came out firing after Sunday’s early morning Sacramento shooting incident. He and President Joe Biden both called for gun control laws that have been on the books since the 20th century.
Six people were killed and a dozen others injured in the aftermath of a large fight involving multiple gunmen in Sacramento.
The Warriors observed a moment of silence before their game later the same day, which Kerr criticized. He said, “I don’t think moments of silence are going to do anything. At some point … our government has to decide are we going to have some commonsense gun laws, it’s not going to solve everything, but it will save lives.
“Despite the fact that 80 to 90 percent of Americans support background checks and you know, you think about all of the commonsense laws we could and should put in place.”
Gun control nuts ought to look before leaping. Such laws have been in the books in nearly every state since the 1990s, including California, according to AWR Hawkins, Breitbart’s Second Amendment writer. Nevertheless, Kerr is in keeping with high profile company on this inconvenient fact. President Joe Biden made the same demand.
“Background checks via the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) have existed in every state since the mid-1990s,” Hawkins reported. “Moreover, California adopted universal background checks in the 1990s, which means every gun sale in the state–retail or private–requires a background check in order to be legal.”
Preceding the Warriors’ 109-90 win over the Sacramento Kings Sunday, Kerr angrily charged into the topic he obsesses on practically every time gun violence erupts in the U.S. He called the government gutless for not cracking down on Second Amendment rights:
If we had any guts, if our government had any guts, if people put others in front of their own career paths, you know, in front of their own reelection campaigns, in front of their own propaganda to manipulate people. It’s right there in front of us.
A study by Everytown for Gun Safety revealed that California has the strongest gun laws in the country, but those laws did nothing to stop Sunday’s violence.
"It's just the same stuff over and over and over again," Kerr said. "Everything changes from here for all the victims' families and it's just time for us to do something about it instead of [having] another moment of silence and then send thoughts and prayers."
It’s been just over a year since Kerr last screeched about gun control. After the March 2021 shootings in Boulder, Colo., he peppered away at Sen. Ted Cruz (Rep-TX) and Republicans for ignoring gun control and supposedly refusing to listen to their constituents.
In 2018, after the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, Kerr blamed government inactivity on gun control as a cause inevitably leading to massacre after massacre.
