While all three broadcast networks thoroughly covered the damning investigative report detailing the disturbing pattern of sexual harassment perpetrated by New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, none of the coverage on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning mentioned CNN anchor Chris Cuomo’s active role in running defense for his scandal-plagued brother. Apparently the media corruption aspect of the story was too uncomfortable for journalists on NBC, ABC, and CBS to examine.
The report put out by New York State Attorney General Letitia James on Tuesday specifically outlined how Chris Cuomo actually authored the Governor’s defiant response to sexual harassment charges made against him. A bombshell Washington Post report in May noted how the CNN anchor even advised his disgraced brother to smear his victims and suggest he was the real victim – of “cancel culture.”
At that time, NBC’s Today show covered the major media scandal while ABC and CBS looked the other way. So where is NBC’s coverage of the New York Attorney General proving Chris Cuomo’s involvement in his brother’s crisis management communications?
To its credit, MSNBC’s Morning Joe on Wednesday actually did bring up Chris Cuomo being implicated in the investigation and an article published on MSNBC.com Tuesday afternoon openly called for the CNN Prime Time host to resign or be fired.
During his 9:00 p.m. ET hour show Tuesday night, Cuomo predictably ignored the scandal swirling around both him and his brother.
While Andrew Cuomo is guilty of abusing his power as governor to abuse and intimidate women who worked for him, Chris Cuomo is guilty of abusing his power as a national “news” anchor to cover for his brother’s bad behavior while secretly participating in political strategy sessions with the Governor and recommending a blame-the-victims approach.
