On NBC’s Today show Tuesday morning, correspondent Anne Thompson not only provided a full report on a third woman accusing scandal-plagued New York Governor Andrew Cuomo of sexual harassment, the journalist also called out the blatant hypocrisy of CNN anchor Chris Cuomo claiming he could not cover the multiple controversies swirling around his brother.
After detailing the latest allegations against Governor Cuomo, Thompson noted: “Overnight, the Governor’s brother, CNN anchor Chris Cuomo, addressing the allegations for the first time.” A soundbite ran of the Cuomo Prime Time host telling viewers Monday night: “Obviously, I cannot cover it because he is my brother.” Though he assured: “I have always cared very deeply about these issues, and profoundly so.”
Thompson immediately pointed out that CNN’s Cuomo never had such concerns about covering his brother over the past year: “This comes after the two had showcased their close relationship during the pandemic. The Governor frequently stopping by his show....And Chris even crashing his brother’s regular press conferences.”
In some of the most cringe-worthy exchanges, Chris Cuomo touted how his brother was “single and ready to mingle,” dubbed him the “luv gov,” and held up a giant cotton swab for comedic effect even as the Democratic governor’s decisions led to the deaths of thousands of nursing home patients amid the pandemic.
As NewsBusters’ Nick Fondacaro pointed out, just two weeks ago, CNN conveniently reinstated a ban on Chris Cuomo interviewing his brother just as the scandals and calls for the Governor’s resignation began to mount.
Credit goes to NBC to highlighting the obvious conflict of interest of one of their liberal media colleagues. While both ABC’s Good Morning America and CBS This Morning covered the latest accusations against Andrew Cuomo, only NBC mentioned Chris Cuomo trying to dodge the story.
