Univision's Facebook Watch Partnership Pushes Abortion Agenda

August 20th, 2019 1:29 PM

Univision anchor Jorge Ramos’ Facebook watch platform continues to take a hard stance in support for liberal policy items. A recent instance of “Real America” continues to push an extreme position on abortion.

This brief segment below captures the essence of Ramos’ coverage of abortion; pro-lifers are cast as extremists, and those who favor abortion are cast as brave defenders of our fundamental freedoms:

EULIMAR NUÑEZ, JOURNALIST, UNIVISION DIGITAL: We are at Reproductive Health Services, the only clinic that provides abortion services in Montgomery, Alabama. There used to be three and now this is the only one left.

TRAVIS JACKSON, CLINIC ESCORT: So much has changed within the three years from the time I first put that vest on- a lot has changed. One of the things I realize that has changed is the protesters’ outrage...

UNKNOWN PRO-LIFE PROTESTER: (...) this morning, please… I want you to know we’re Christians here, we love you, we wanna help. I promise you ma’am, If you let us talk with you…

JACKSON: They would yell obscenities at women, such as telling them that...you know...God would have the last say-so- you don’t have the last say-so over your body...

UNKNOWN PRO-LIFE PROTESTER: I promise you ma’am, If you let us talk with you…we’ll help you, and this baby can live. Your baby deserves to live.

EULIMAR NUÑEZ, JOURNALIST, UNIVISION DIGITAL: Even though abortion is still legal in all 50 states women who come here to receive the service still feel like they’re doing something illegal.

UNKNOWN PRO-LIFE PROTESTER: They’re about to rip this baby into shreds...

NUÑEZ: Just coming out from my car I needed escorts to guide me because they started yelling things at me, the protesters that were outside. It makes you feel like you’re doing something illegal even though it's not that yet. But the restrictions and the protesters and the things that they scream at you make you feel that way.

JACKSON: “It’s better for you just to be in the kitchen”, and other things to degrade women...I understood that that was just a way that the protesters thought, and they also think that they’re doing the will of God by harassing/stalking women. Which we all know that Jesus would disapprove of that.

Setting this segment up at the beginning of the show betrays a desperate attempt to potray the Pro-Life movement in Alabama as an unhinged menace. Correspondent Eulimar Nuñez claims that she needed escorts into the abortion facility because the “Pro-Life groups were screaming things at her”, but the only recording available was of one protester saying that her child was going to be torn into shreds along with promising to help her. Likewise, and contrary to the clinic escort’s claims, there is no audio where protesters directed women to remain in the kitchen.

The 15 minute “documentary” featured six speakers, all  in favor of abortion and in opposition of the Alabama statute. The speakers included Ruth Dawson of ACLU, Lashonda Lemon Pinhcon from one of the three abortion clinics in Alabama, and Mia Raven from the Montgomery Area Reproductive Justice Coalition. No pro-life voices were featured.

Univision closed out this propagandistic program by making the claim that none of the Alabama protesters refused to make a comment.

Assuming that were true, then surely there were other pro-life voices who could’ve spoken in defense of Alabama’s new statute. Univision knows where to find bilingual pro-life voices such as Adryana Aldeen, for example, who is often booked on Sunday political affairs show Al Punto as a pro-life advocate. Why not book her here if no pro-lifers were willing to come forward?   Unsurprisingly, MRC Latino was able to get in contact with five Alabama activists who would disagree with Univision’s conclusions on the record.

Here again, Jorge Ramos’s Facebook Watch vehicle seems to serve no other purpose than to push a liberal policy agenda more aggressively than on Univision’s Spanish-language outlets.
