Despite two hours of air time on Monday, the co-hosts at Good Morning America skipped coverage of Mexico’s election of a very liberal president, who CBS, CNN, NBC and MSNBC called a “left-wing” or “far-left” politician. It wasn’t because of a lack of available air time. ABC's GMA devoted over four minutes of coverage to tennis star Serena Williams deciding to stop breast feeding.
CBS This Morning’s Anthony Mason said of Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador: “Mexico's next president is being described as a left-wing version of President Trump.”
Over on NBC’s Today, Willie Geist alerted:
Landslide victory. Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador wins Mexico’s presidential election. His left-wing politics signaling a major change in Mexico, setting the stage for possible showdowns with the Trump administration over trade and immigration.
On MSNBC, Andrea Mitchell opened her program by announcing: “Mexico elects a far-left president who is promising to trim economic ties with the U.S.” Even CNN’s liberal journalist Christiane Amanpour noticed Lopez Obrador’s “left-wing” support. So did the New York Times.
Yet, ABC couldn’t be bothered to cover this development. In addition to giving 4 minutes and 11 seconds to whether a tennis star would breast feed, the fluff-heavy show devoted 10 minutes and 41 seconds to singer and actor Josh Groban.
