Actor Matt Damon thinks the United States should follow Australia’s example and have a mass confiscation of guns in order to rob Americans of their Second Amendment rights.
It’s ironic that Damon made this claim while in Australia promoting the latest gun-toting action Jason Bourne movie (where he plays the lead role of an American spy).
Damon praised Australia’s drastic gun control measures in 1996 after a gunman killed 35 people at a resort in Tasmania which in turn led to a massive buy-back of firearms, ban on private sales, and that anyone wishing to own a gun would need a "genuine reason" to have one beyond self-defense.
How lovely. Matt Damon doesn’t want Americans to defend themselves: “You guys did it here in one fell swoop and I wish that could happen in my country, but it’s such a personal issue for people that we cannot talk about it sensibly.”
Damon complained Americans get “so emotional” about the Second Amendment and even asserted they won't even discuss “not selling AK-47s to people on terror watchlists.”
“I don't know what needs to happen. Obviously mass shootings aren't gonna do it… There have been so many of them at this point. Sandy Hook, when those children were murdered, if that didn’t do it, you know, I just don’t know. Maybe we just need to evolve further before we can have that conversation, I don’t know,” he added.
Damon praised the Australia gun ban as “sensible,” and wished for something “like that but I don’t think that’s going to happen in my lifetime.”
Another famous actor known for appearing in action-packed movies, Liam Neeson, condemned U.S. gun laws back in 2014 by commending Britain’s ban on handguns and that he was, “totally for gun control in the US.” After the January 2015 Islamic terror attack in Paris, Neeson dubbed U.S. gun ownership “a [bleeping] disgrace
