YouTube received criticism from a U.S. congresswoman after it reportedly removed a video of a news conference that discussed a legal challenge to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s “vaccine passports.”

Demonetization, the act of prohibiting channels from profiting off their videos, is one of YouTube’s censorship tools used against creators. Grabien Founder and Editor Tom Elliott “suspected this was coming.” Elliott said the company, which provides a suite of tools for newsmakers and curates its own original content, had its YouTube channel demonetized.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson said that mainstream news outlets should consider it their “duty” to reject Big Tech censorship before ultimately claiming “that's not going to happen.”

As part of a segment critical of Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, CNN Newsroom guest host Erica Hill and The Atlantic's Ron Brownstein included mention of Paul's one week suspension for YouTube where he questioned the effectiveness of cloth masks. Lost on the two was that former Biden advisor Dr. Michael Osterholm said the exact same thing on CNN the previous week.

The new free speech-oriented video-sharing platform said it has experienced massive growth in recent months. “In just the past year, Rumble has experienced over a 25-fold increase in viewership – with no indication of slowing,” the platform said. YouTube appeared to remove Senator Rand Paul’s (R-KY) video protesting the platform’s censorship and reportedly suspended him for seven days. “Apparently, because I dared to contradict Dr. Fauci and the government YouTube removed my video,” Paul commented in his response. 

Four school board meetings, collectively from Connecticut, Illinois and Washington, were removed from YouTube within an eight-day period last month for violating the platform’s “COVID-19 medical misinformation policy.” Big Tech’s censorship of local government meetings and public officials, whether restored following criticism or not, is a slippery slope that keeps getting steeper.
