The nation’s main domestic Spanish-language networks have largely refused to pre-empt their evening newscasts in order to carry the daily White House press briefings on the Trump Administration’s response to the Coronavirus pandemic. At best, viewers receive piecemeal information that is filtered through the network’s own biases. At worst, viewers are exposed to outright fake news.

The nation’s domestic Spanish-language networks have found a way to superimpose their most prominent public policy agenda item on their coronavirus coverage: by bemoaning the exclusion of illegal immigrants in the recently-passed economic aid package.

Telemundo White House Correspondent Cristina Londoño shredded the President's Oval Office address to the nation in a report for the network´s Un Nuevo Día morning kaffeeklatsch, wherein she insisted on describing it as “causing more confusion, more nervousness.”

The Hispanophone media´s penchant for hyperbole went on full display at Telemundo´s Al Rojo Vivo with Maria Celeste Arraras, who devoted the entire edition of the news magazine that aired on Wednesday, March 10, 2020 to countering President Trump's call for the use of sanity vs. panic, regarding the threat of the coronavirus spreading in the United States.

Joe Biden’s rise from the ash heap to Democratic frontrunner, while remarkable unto itself, is also remarkable for the manner in which it exposed the nation’s domestic Spanish-language media’s agenda-driven journalism. The networks built a narrative which centered around making Bernie Sanders a “Latino” candidate with which to flex power and influence.

In a viral moment from an auto plant in Detroit Tuesday, a raging Joe Biden lashed out and threatened to assault (slap) an autoworker who confronted him about his support for curtailing Second Amendment rights. For the month of February, 2020, MRC Latino analyzed coverage of the 2020 Democratic primaries. The results showed that Bernie Sanders dominated coverage on both Univision and Telemundo, garnering nearly twice as much coverage as the rest of the Democratic field combined.
