Forgoing much of its regularly scheduled segments to cover live the official nomination of Hillary Clinton for president Tuesday night at the Democratic National Committee (DNC), ABC’s World News Tonight repeatedly harped in the most jittery mood possible about the DNC hall being in “tears” at Clinton becoming the first woman to be a major party’s presidential nominee. 

As the media swooned over First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech to the Democratic National Convention Monday night and applauded her defense of America’s “greatness,” journalists seemed to suffer from collective amnesia as they forgot Mrs. Obama’s controversial revelation that she was “proud” of the country for the “first time” during her husband’s 2008 presidential run.

The “big three” networks of ABC, CBS, and NBC were hard pressed for time on Monday night to comment on speeches at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) by Senators Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (Vt.), but there was time after First Lady Michelle Obama’s speech to gush over her “artfully painted” address featuring “trademark...grace” in attacking Donald Trump.

Michelle Miller gushed over Michelle Obama and her seven and a half years as first lady on Monday's CBS Evening News. Miller trumpeted Mrs. Obama as "her husband's biggest advocate; a mother fiercely protective of her daughter's privacy; champion for healthy eating and staying fit — using her bare arms to redefine fashion; and her voice to comfort the country." Scott Pelley and the CBS This Morning crew, on Monday, made the sales pitch for Hillary Clinton’s Tim Kaine VP selection. The CBS Evening News anchor, invited on to recap his 60 Minutes interview with the Democratic ticket, proclaimed of the pair “they look terrific” and “they were finishing each other’s sentences.” His CBS colleague Charlie Rose hailed they had “perfect chemistry.”

They call it a comeback. The depiction of Donald Trump’s speech by liberal reporters and commentator continued into the next morning with CBS’s Charlie Rose greeting viewers with this stark opening: “Welcome to CBS This Morning. Donald Trump accepts the Republican presidential nomination, saying there can be no prosperity without law and order. His speech focused more on threats than hope.” 

The three networks on Thursday night immediately derided Donald Trump’s “dark speech” as one coming from a “vengeful” “demagogue.” On NBC, Tom Brokaw allowed that “some” will see Trump as on a “white horse who will lead them to some kind of sanctuary and then pull the drawbridge up.” But he sneered, “Others looking in are going to see someone they will only think as a demagogue of some kind.” 

The Hillary Clinton propaganda machine has been hard at work leading up to her presumptive presidential nomination. Entertainment media have been littered with a multitude of TV shows, movies, children’s books, and even songs inspired by the Democratic candidate.

Wednesday's CBS Evening News used the recent heat wave in the United States to hype climate change.
