On Friday, all three morning shows dutifully touted President Obama’s defense of paying Iran $400 million on the same day Tehran released American hostages. Rather than hold the current president accountable for his highly questionable statements on the scandal, the broadcasts instead chose to hammer presidential candidate Donald Trump over a gaffe he made while reacting to the controversy.

Two networks. Two vice presidential candidates. Same questions. Today co-host Savannah Guthrie on Friday interviewed Mike Pence and urged the Republican to trash Donald Trump. On CBS This Morning, Norah O’Donnell talked to Tim Kaine and urged the Democrat to trash... Donald Trump. She did not demand that Kaine bash Hillary Clinton. Instead she asked if Trump was “sane” and “competent.” 

The journalists at CBS This Morning on Thursday hailed Barack Obama as the “feminist-in-chief” and praised his new essay in Glamour magazine on “women and politics.” Naturally, Democratic donor and co-host Gayle King expanded the discussion to a complaint about people disliking Hillary Clinton. 

Now that he’s is the official Republican nominee, the Trump bashing is soaring to new heights. On Wednesday night’s episode of The Late Late Show, host James Corden teamed up with comedian Denis Leary to sing a new song: “Trump’s An A*sshole.”

While both NBC’s Today and CBS This Morning devoted full reports to The Wall Street Journal exposing the Obama administration secretly paying a $400 million ransom in cash to Iran to secure the release of American hostages, ABC’s Good Morning America only managed two news briefs on the topic that amounted to less than a minute of air time.

For the second day in a row, NBC on Wednesday ignored the high level firings at the Democratic National Committee. Politico hyped it as “heads roll at the DNC.” Yet, the four hour-long Today show found no time for it. Instead, reporter Hallie Jackson trumpeted a “civil war” within the Republican Party.
