Tonight’s evening newscasts turned a blind eye to an emerging threat along our southern border: a migrant smuggling network with ties to ISIS. It is difficult to find a rationale for doing so other than a willful refusal to report anything that would further damage the Biden administration (and/or campaign) on what is its weakest issue: immigration.

With the general election underway, the campaigns are off to the races…and so are the networks’ respective political correspondents. And they seem to be all over the place, as their coverage of reaction to remarks made by former President Donald Trump over the future of Social Security.

The following are just a few of the over-the-top reactions to the State of the Unions address from Biden’s cheerleaders in the press: 

Vice President Kamala Harris sat down with ABC, NBC, and CBS on Friday to recap President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address and discuss the campaign. While all three networks condensed the interviews for their respective nightly news shows, ABC’s World News Tonight edits were the most sympathetic to Harris.

Unfortunately, Friday’s CBS Mornings followed the lead of ABC’s Good Morning America and NBC’s Today in forgoing actual critiques of President Biden’s 2024 State of the Union address on Thursday. Instead, it heaped praise on the “fiery” and “fired up” Biden going “on the offensive” and proved he “has the energy, the fire in the belly to serve another four years”.

CBS chief political analyst John Dickerson joined Stephen Colbert on Thursday for a special live edition of The Late Show, where the two fawned over President Joe Biden’s State of the Union Address by claiming that simply by giving the speech, Biden “reknits those bonds” of democracy.

The drive-by media was very hopeful in the days ahead of the State of the Union address, and the prevailing sense is that the speech was going to be hailed as successful so long as President Joe Biden didn’t soil himself on the dais. CBS’s early reaction to the speech appears to confirm that sense.

In a 50-0 vote on Thursday, the House Energy and Commerce Committee approved a proposed law that would ban apps in the U.S. if they were tied to a foreign power.
