After news broke that four financial leviathans managing trillions of dollars had abandoned a massive environmental, social and governance (ESG) pressure group, ABC News, NBC News, and CBS News ignored the story in their evening coverage.

There’s this thing going on wherein Biden officials have to go on camera and state that the president’s mental acumen and absolute command of the facts are without peer. The latest official to render this ritualistic praise is Treasury Secretary Janey Yellen, and she did so on CBS Evening News.

“Disappointing”. “Frustrating”. “A rough day for the markets”. After this morning’s cheerful attempts to spin the higher-than-expected Consumer Price Index for January, the networks have very clearly course-corrected. The evening newscasts were far more reflective of the harsh reality of what the report indicated. 

The networks each sang from the same hymnal as they covered the awful shooting at Houston’s Lakewood Church: actively excluding the trans identity of the shooter, which caused a great deal of confusion as details of the story were trickling in.

A funny thing happened on the way to wall-to-wall coverage of the Supreme Court hearing on Colorado’s decision to disqualify former President Donald Trump on 14th Amendment grounds: Special Counsel Robert Hur published his office’s report on the investigation of President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents, and bedlam ensued.

The network evening newscasts had their collective work cut out for them as they did their very best firefighting, albeit with varying degrees of intensity, in an attempt to save the Senate border deal currently engulfed in flames as details of the legislation went public Sunday night.

The network evening newscasts’ coverage of the impeachment of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas was uniformly fretful, with ABC and CBS further distinguishing themselves using the impeachment as an opportunity to further shill for the dying White House-Senate border compromise.

As fate would have it, it fell upon one of CBS’s most ardent anti-Israel reporters, correspondent Debora Patta, to report on the news of countries pulling funding from UNRWA due to employee involvement in Hamas’ barbaric October 7th attack against Israel. Needless to say, the report went exactly as you’d expect.

Across the dial the network evening network newscasts, using the same talking points, pumped the Senate-White House border deal, and knocked Republicans opposing the deal. And in so doing, they left out some pretty important details.

Today in federal court, the source of a major story involving stolen tax information was sentenced to a five-year prison term. Given how the story was covered, you’d expect at least minimal coverage across the major evening newscasts. But, alas, this wasn’t the case across the board.

There isn’t an actual border deal in Washington yet but you wouldn’t know that, given the media’s collective caterwauling over former President Donald Trump’s comments on a prospective border deal, which the media then proceeded to frame as a killing of the deal.
