What State of the Union coverage anchored by Chris Matthews would be complete without the inevitable, nostalgic look back at Barack Obama? In the early hours of Wednesday, the MSNBC host talked to liberal actor Bradley Whitford and blurted, “I looked up to Obama. As a journalist,  I looked up to Obama. I don't mind saying so. Obviously.” 

On Wednesday, MSNBC’s Morning Joe hosted a number of guests to evaluate President Trump’s performance during the previous night’s State of the Union address. Notably present was political consultant and pollster Frank Luntz, whose defense of the President’s speech earned him considerable flak from anchors Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski.

During an interview with Florida Senator Marco Rubio on Wednesday’s CBS This Morning, co-host Gayle King claimed it was “offensive” for President Trump to highlight the victims of MS-13 gang violence during the State of the Union address and argued that he was trying to paint all immigrants as criminals. The Republican lawmaker immediately called out her unfair accusation.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders made an appearance on New Day this morning, where co-host Chris Cuomo repeatedly tried to paint the President and his immigration policy as racist.

During President Trump’s first State of the Union address on January 30, MSNBC host Joy Reid took to Twitter to rant about how polarizing the speech was – not because of any of the policies he mentioned, but because it talked about things like “family” and “church,” which she dismissed as outdated and nationalistic tropes.  

In a move that was strange and downright infuriating to many liberals, Bill Nye the Science Guy attended the State of The Union Address as a guest of Republican Congressman, Jim Bridenstine of Oklahoma. Many on the left consider Nye, a climate change evangelist and general liberal activist, to be betraying his values by attending the event with the Trump-backed congressman.  

Immediately following President Trump’s positive State of the Union address, which ABC complained was “divisive” “gloomy” and “sad,” the same ABC team was still in meltdown mode two hours later on Nightline. But newly instated ABC News contributor Chris Christie was the only one to declare the truth of the matter, that Democrats had become so partisan that there wasn’t “anything” he could’ve said…

Appearing on ABC’s Good Morning America Wednesday morning to review President Trump’s State of the Union address, Chief Political Analyst Matthew Dowd worried that he “didn’t get any sense there was any room for compromise” in the speech and even proclaimed that the nation was as divided today as it was during the Civil War.

After trashing President Trump’s State of the Union address moments after it ended Tuesday night, on Wednesday morning, Meet the Press moderator Chuck Todd was back at it on the Today show, fearing the speech “set things back” and “really offended a lot of Democrats,” which apparently included him.

On Tuesday night, NBC threw what could be described as a hissy fit following President Trump’s first State of the Union address by attacking it as a “subdued,” “tired” President and speech that will keep “the fact checkers...busy” but didn’t address Russia or gun control.

In an amazing example of just how out of touch they were with the American people Tuesday, CNN prefaced the release of their very positive State of the Union reaction poll by claiming it wasn’t representative of the nation. “It's not representative of the country overall it is a poll of people who watched the speech. Well, who watches a State of the Union address? Fans of the person giving it,”…

MSNBC’s hyperbolic, frenzied State of the Union coverage climaxed in the early hours of Wednesday morning. Despite the fact that 75 percent of Americans approved of the speech, director Rob Reiner lamented that “intelligent people” like Chris Matthews and Rachel Maddow were forced to listen to the “racist” “liar” Trump. 

It didn’t take long for CNN to crank the anti-Trump ridiculousness up to 11 after President Trump’s State of the Union address. Just 19 seconds after Trump concluded his speech CNN host Jake Tapper, and later Chief Political Analyst Gloria Borger, whined about how Trump used patriotic language that would inevitably “turn off” liberal Democrats.
