As we were scouring the archives for our year-end reviews, we stumbled upon this video that we forgot to share with you for some reason. At the intersection of narcissism and vanity lies Jorge Ramos’ remembrance of President George Herbert Walker Bush on his Sunday political talker Al Punto.
Watch as Ramos reminds you of what he thought was really important to remember about President Bush:
JORGE RAMOS, SENIOR ANCHOR, UNIVISION: George Bush, Sr.’s funeral was this week, and truth be told, the interview didn’t turn out the way I wanted it to. Not just because of my English, but because I couldn’t get the date for the invasion of Iraq out of the president. Shortly after my interview, in fact, the military attack was launched.
Mind you, this is the best memorial Univision could muster for Al Punto a full two weeks after Bush 41’s passing. The prior week’s show was dedicated to wall-to-wall coverage of the inaugural of Mexican president Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), and newscast coverage of Bush’s passing was tacked on at the end of the show.
A week later one would’ve expected something more substantive, especially given the fact that Bush lived in Houston, which is one of Univision’s biggest markets. But alas and unlike every other Sunday talk show, there was no five-star panel discussing the life and legacy of George H.W. Bush.
Instead, Univision viewers were treated to a snapshot of Ramos’ vainglory. Instead of discussing Bush’s historical footprint, Ramos bemoaned that he couldn’t pry an invasion timeline out of Bush.
Univision’s viewers certainly deserved better. So did George H.W. Bush.
