Scarborough: Angry Democrats Pushing Manchin Into Arms of GOP

December 20th, 2021 9:52 AM

Go ahead, Jen Psaki. Put out a furious, Biden-approved statement, accusing Joe Manchin of failing to "honor his prior commitments," of breaking his "promise," of—not to put too fine a point on it—lying.

Bernie Sanders: enjoy your moment of accusing Manchin of not having the "guts" to stand up to powerful special interests.

And Ilhan Omar, bask in the rosy glow of calling Manchin's reasons for opposing Build Back Better "bull----."

The three of you, and the other Democrats who are lashing out at Manchin, see how you enjoy life with Mitch McConnell back in the Senate Majority-Leader saddle. That was Joe Scarborough's warning to Democrats on Monday's Morning Joe:

"I'm sure they were angry, I'm sure they felt betrayed. I'm sure they're completely exasperated with trying to nail him down...I was taken by those attacks, and attacks by other Democrats,  which seem to invite Joe Manchin to become a Republican."

Scarborough cited the example of "Jumpin" Jim Jeffords. In 2001, the late Senator from Vermont flipped from the GOP to the Democrats, handing them the Senate majority: "Democrats think it can't get worse. Oh! It can always get worse. Jim Jefferds left the Republican party in 2002, and gave Democrats control of the Senate because of his problems with George W. Bush."

In contrast, Scarborough pointed to Bill Clinton as someone who understood the ways of Washington and of getting things done: "you could impeach [him] on Monday. He would invite you golfing on Tuesday. And you'd be working on a bill with him on Wednesday."

So yeah, Democrats, go ahead, blast Manchin—and make Cocaine Mitch's day!

Joe Scarborough warning Democrats that they are pushing Joe Manchin into the arms of the GOP with their attacks on him for his decision to oppose Build Back Better was sponsored in part by Intuit, Allstate, Rocket Mortgage, BMWGold Bond, Clear Choice, and LifeLock.

JOE SCARBOROUGH: Jonathan Lemire, take us inside the White House and their decision to put out that statement. Obviously they're going to need Joe Manchin for anything that is passed over the next year.

And of course, I'm sure they were angry, I'm sure they felt betrayed. I'm sure they're completely exasperated with trying to nail him down. At the same time, as I said yesterday, you could impeach Bill Clinton on Monday. He would invite you golfing on Tuesday. And you'd be working on a bill with him on Wednesday. Because Bill Clinton always understood there is the next battle, there is the next bill, there is the next victory to be had.

I was quite taken, again, not because of Joe Manchin's feelings but just because of the realities of Washington, D.C. I was taken by those attacks, and attacks by other Democrats, which we're going to read in a second, which seem to invite Joe Manchin to become a Republican.

Democrats think it can't get worse. Oh! It can always get worse. Jim Jefferds left the Republican party in 2002, and gave Democrats control of the Senate because of his problems with George W. Bush.
