Joy Behar on TX Abortion Law: We Need to Worry About the Republican Taliban

September 7th, 2021 1:54 PM

The View returned Tuesday for its 25th season without any conservative co-host, so the table was in agreement most of the show. When the topic of Texas’s SB8 fetal heartbeat law came up, each of the liberal women tore into it, with Joy Behar pretending she works for MSNBC, calling Republicans "the Taliban in America."

Whoopi Goldberg started off the discussion, at first angry about victims of rape being unable to get an abortion. She claimed abortion was her right as a Christian parent:

Because for me, if you believe in me as a Christian parent, then I will know what's best for my child. If my child has been raped or has been molested, allow me to take care of my child and my family.

She then argued that pro-lifers were the same people who didn’t believe in mask mandates.

Fellow co-host Sunny Hostin declared that as a Catholic she believed abortion was a sin and morally wrong...but she was also pro-choice. She agreed with Whoopi that conservatives were hypocrites because they didn’t take liberal positions on issues:

I agree with you, Whoopi, in the sense that I see this incredible hypocrisy coming from the Christian right especially among people like myself who say that abortion is wrong and say it's about the sanctity of life. Yet they're so supportive of gun ownership. They're so supportive of ar-15s. They're so supportive of the death penalty. They're so supportive of never ending wars.

...They claim to be pro-life. So I have to get that out there. Because this is really about personal choice. I do get this now after being on the show for five years…

Joy Behar displayed her usual nastiness towards conservatives. “They also don't care after the kid is born. Then they drop you like a hot rock!” she decried, as the audience clapped on cue.

Behar got more volatile as the segment went on, adding, “Let’s say what this is about right? This is hatred of women!”

Like others in the media, Hostin worried that this law would lead to “terror against doctors, terror against clinics.”

Co-host Sara Haines made the bizarre claim that actually no one in the whole world was pro-abortion and all of the co-hosts were “pro-life” despite their steadfast support for abortion:

Just to be clear on something Sunny said. Nobody -- I think I can say this for every person in the world -- is pro abortion. That is a decision people are brought to and it's a life changing hard altering -- that no man ever has to face. No man ever has to face it. This is not something anyone is for just to be clear. [claps] You know its as you say, we're all pro-life.

And when you thought the segment couldn’t weirder, Whoopi worried that if women couldn’t get abortions, they’d kill their kids (in other ways): “[I]s SCOTUS going to be responsible for these babies when these people have these children? What happens when they're God forbid murdered by their parents? Whose responsibility is that?”

A riled up Joy Behar then called conservatives the Taliban. “They're worried about the Taliban and the Taliban and women. Worry about the Taliban in America. That’s what these guys really are,” she sneered as the audience cheered.

After that horrible remark, Whoopi closed the segment touting how The View was a “thinking show.” She must mean telling you what to think, since there's no balance of conservative and liberal voices, whatsoever.

9/7/21

WHOOPI GOLDBERG: So last week's supreme court allowed Texas law to go into effect that bans abortion after six weeks and deputizes private citizens to snitch on anyone that gets an abortions she might need. Seven other states are set to follow suit with similar laws...

This is to me a very hard -- hard Christian thing. Because for me, if you believe in me as a Christian parent, then I will know what's best for my child. If my child has been raped or has been molested, allow me to take care of my child and my family. Y'all don't want to put masks on, but you want me -- [ cheers and applause ] It's not even whether you agree with abortion…

...SUNNY HOSTIN: I agree with you, Whoopi, in the sense that I see this incredible hypocrisy coming from the Christian right especially among people like myself who say that abortion is wrong and say it's about the sanctity of life. Yet they're so supportive of gun ownership. They're so supportive of ar-15s. They're so supportive of the death penalty. They're so supportive of never ending wars.

JOY BEHAR: They also don't care after the kid is born. Then they drop you like a hot rock. [applause]

HOSTIN: They're so supportive of personal freedoms to choose not to be vaccinated. They’re so supportive of personal freedoms not to wear masks. Yet--

BEHAR:  Let’s say what this is about right? This is hatred of women.

HOSTIN: They claim to be pro-life. So I have to get that out there. Because this is really about personal choice. I do get this now after being on the show for five years….

HOSTIN: You can't just have a Texas law that allows any citizen of any state to sue not the pregnant woman actually, not the person seeking the abortion, but anyone who helps the person. Like an Uber driver, or the abortion doctor. This is going to lead to I think terror against doctors, terror against clinics.

BEHAR: Terror against Uber drivers!

SARA HAINES:Just to be clear on something Sunny said.

GOLDBERG: We're all pro-life. Who is going -- is SCOTUSgoing to be responsible for these babies when these people have these children? What happens when they're God forbid murdered by their parents? Whose responsibility is that?

BEHAR: They're worried about the Taliban and the Taliban and women. Worry about the Taliban in America. [ Applause ] That’s what these guys really are.

WHOOPI GOLDBERG:  Just more stuff to think about. This is a thinking show. This is a show about thinking about how does it affect us as a human race.
