Late Wednesday night on MSNBC’s Last Word, host Lawrence O’Donnell asked his guests, Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards and CBS Sunday Morning contributor Nancy Giles, what they thought about Elizabeth Warren as Hillary Clinton’s potential running mate. O’Donnell seemed thrilled at the prospect and asked Giles if she felt the same way. She praised Warren “going for the jugular” against Trump, wondering aloud if that was the
only way to attack someone who was “clinically insane.”
NANCY GILES: I think they would be a powerhouse duo. I love her tweets, I’ve been following and retweeting, the things she said about Donald Trump religiously. For whatever reason she’s just no holds barred, she is absolutely unafraid and she’s going for the jugular in ways that um, actually I am now seeing Hillary Clinton, in her own way, kinda lay out her case against his temperament. I love the fact that she is using his own language against him. I think that’s probably the most effective way. Because he’s, I think, clinically insane. [O’Donnell chuckles]
Lawrence O’Donnell chuckled and stated that Giles was “not alone” in her opinion and that “a lot” of psychologists have wondered the same thing.
LAWRENCE O’DONNELL: There’s that.
GILES: I mean, I really do!
O’DONNELL: You’re not alone. There’s a lot of clinicians who have been speculating about that.
GILES: I want to see more psychologists and psychiatrists evaluating him from a mental health point of view. I really feel like-- I’ve written the Times and said, “Come on! This is more important than the women.”
But there’s nothing crazy about staying with a serial philanderer who’s been accused of rape and sexaul assault one too many times, or a white woman who uses her miniscule Native American lineage to advance her career as a “minority”?
Giles seems to reserve her more inflammatory rhetoric for election season. In 2012 she harped on about the GOP’s “War on Women,” and claimed that whites oppose abortion to “build up the race.” Perhaps Giles should read about the history of Planned Parenthood and its pro-eugenics founder Margaret Sanger before making such claims.
