As former NBC News anchor Tom Brokaw appeared as a guest on Wednesday's The Colbert Report on Comedy Central, he and host Stephen Colbert poked fun at former President Bill Clinton as the two discussed what a second term of President Barack Obama would likely involve.
After Brokaw suggested that second terms are often less successful than first terms, and are even more likely to include scandals, noting the Iran-Contra scandal from the Reagan administration, Colbert raised the possibility of an Obama impeachment over imposing gun control by executive order.
The two ended up joking about Bill Clinton's impeachment over the Monica Lewinsky affair:
STEPHEN COLBERT: Is he going to be impeached? Because there are people calling for that.
TOM BROKAW: There are people calling for it, and it won't happen.
COLBERT: Oh, really? Clinton was.
BROKAW: Well, there was an entirely different reason for that.
COLBERT: That wasn't executive overreach. That was more "underreach," if you know what I mean. I realize that.
BROKAW: It was not entirely clear who was reaching for whom in that case.
COLBERT: I understand. I understand. That's how he got off. In more ways than one.
