Kimmel Show Asks About Periods, Cat Toys In Failed Dunk On Pro-Lifers

April 14th, 2023 12:01 PM

ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! conducted a series of man-on-the-street interviews for Thursday’s how where a reporter asked a series of men questions about women’s bodies that they naturally did not know the answers to. The point was not just to laugh at men who can’t identify cat toys or confuse the rectum for the ovaries, but to attack pro-lifers.

At the end of his monologue, Kimmel introduced the segment, “It's getting extra crazy between the Supreme Court and Roe v. Wade and the judge who ruled against the abortion pills. There are a lot of people, mostly men telling mostly women what they can and can't do with their bodies which got us  thinking about how little men know about the female anatomy.”

Kimmel added, “Speaking for myself, I don't know a whole lot of it. We did this once before. The results were not surprising but with all the new focus we decided to try it again. We went out on Hollywood Boulevard, we asked men walking by questions about women's bodies and then, well, here's what they had to say.”

What followed was a massive non-sequitur. A series of five men were asked questions like:

  • "How many holes does the average woman have below her belly button?"
  • "How often do women ovulate?"
  • "How many eggs are released during that ovulation?"
  • "How many eggs is a woman born with?"
  • "What do ovaries do?"
  • "How long is the average vaginal canal?"
  • "Do you have to take your tampon out when you pee?"

One man could not tell the difference between the uterus and the bladder or between the ovaries and the rectum. Another had no clue how tampons work, while another thought that a cat toy was something that was inserted into the vagina. The segment ended with the failed tampon explainer detonating a tiny firecracker under the impression is was an “ultra” tampon.

Man-on-the-street interview are always suspicious because there is no way of knowing who is truly clueless and who was willing to play a role in exchange for being on TV or how many people knew the correct answer, but who were naturally not shown. Either way, a man (or woman) not knowing how many eggs a woman is born with has nothing to do with abortion opinions. People know what an abortion is and that has nothing to do with the length of the vaginal canal.

This segment was sponsored by Tums.

Here is a transcript for the April 14 show:

JIMMY KIMMEL: It's getting extra crazy between the Supreme Court and Roe v. Wade and the judge who ruled against the abortion pills. There are a lot of people, mostly men telling mostly women what they can and can't do with their bodies which got us -- thinking about how little men know about the female anatomy. Speaking for myself, I don't know a whole lot of it. We did this once before. The results were not surprising but with all the new focus we decided to try it again. We went out on Hollywood Boulevard, we asked men walking by questions about women's bodies and then, well, here's what they had to say.

REPORTER: How many eggs are released during ovulation?

MAN 1: Eggs? At least 100. [Buzzer]

REPORTER: How many holes does the average woman have below her belly button?

MAN 2: Two. [Buzzer]

REPORTER: Can you name both?

MAN 2: The butt, I don’t know the specific name of the other one is.

REPORTER: What does it sound like?

MAN 2: It’s vagina.

REPORTER: How often do women ovulate?

MAN 3: I’m going to say twice a month. [Buzzer]

REPORTER: How many eggs are released during that ovulation?

MAN 3: Whoa, I have no clue.

REPORTER: If he had to take a guess.

MAN 3: Nine. [Buzzer]

REPORTER: How many eggs is a woman born with?

MAN 3: Whoa!

REPORTER: What do ovaries do?

MAN 3: Whoa!

REPORTER: And how long is the average vaginal canal?

MAN 3: Whoa! I'm a guy, not a gynecologist.

REPORTER: How much blood does the average woman lose during her period?

MAN 2: I’d say, a couple gallons. [Buzzer]

REPORTER: Point to what you know. Just whatever you know.

MAN 4: I know that’s the stomach.

REPORTER: That’s the what?

MAN 4: The stomach. [Buzzer]

REPORTER: Not quite.

MAN 4: If I'm not mistaken, this is the uterus. [Buzzer] Right here.

REPORTER: That’s the bladder.

Can you point through the ovaries?

MAN 4: Here? [Buzzer] Here. [Buzzer]

REPORTER: That is a woman's rectum.

Do you have to take your tampon out when you pee?

MAN 1: Why? Do you guys not like plugging it up?

Okay, so the round part goes in like that.

REPORTER: And then what happens.

MAN 1: I mean, I guess somehow it has to come out that way. I assume it is going to get wet. So, okay. Yank it out like that?

REPORTER: Yup.

MAN 1: And then I guess with gloves of course. I mean, it’s cotton, right? I mean, you can’t you just squeeze it like a washrag?

REPORTER: What, if you were a woman, would you do with this?

MAN 5: No, this is -- what is this? Put it into your vagina. I think that, you know,-- no? [Buzzer] No, I have no idea.

REPORTER: Maybe, if you have a cat. It’s a cat toy.

MAN 5: Is it a cat toy?

WOMAN: No woman would ever insert that into her vagina.

MAN 5: Yeah. I have no idea.

MAN 1: Okay, so, like once you get it nice and wrung out like that, you, wait hold on. Okay, so I guess then – oh wait, no it’s not going to work.

REPORTER: Why don't you think it’s working?

MAN 1: I don’t know, I guess it is why, you know –

REPORTER: It’s practice because we have to practice

MAN 1: Is this the super one?

REPORTER: We have an ultra

MAN 1: Wait, so do you still stick it in regular like that?

REPORTER: Yeah, yeah, just point it to the sky.

MAN 1: But, you see like when you pull it out, though, it is going to be like

REPORTER: That feels like it would hurt.
