FINALLY: Latino Nets Cover the President's Son... Mexico's, That Is.

February 16th, 2022 11:00 AM

The President's Son – el hijo del presidente – finally caught the attention of the nation's leading Spanish-speaking newscasts. Mind you, it wasn't the scandal-ridden son of OUR sitting president, but that of Mexico's Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who was deemed worthy of a combined six minutes plus of airtime at Telemundo and Univision on Valentine's Day.

It appeared that incriminating news about the son of Mexico's president was infinitely more important than damning news about Hunter Biden, whose lucrative business dealings with foreign governments and references of payments to “the Big Guy,” as revealed in his laptop scandal, merited a grand total of 1:19 minutes in airtime at the Latino networks, and only after Hunter's PR stunt before the cameras to deny everything, as MRC Latino informed at the peak of the Hunter Biden laptop scandal, in December 2020.

Watch the newscasters grant A-block coverage to José Ramón López Beltrán over his lavish lifestyle and alleged relationship with Mexico's state-run petroleum company (PEMEX), before denouncing his father for criticizing the journalist who published an investigation into the younger López. The following clips were aired over Telemundo's midday and evening newscasts, and Univision News, on Monday, February 14, 2022:

JORGE RAMOS: On to Mexico. The Inter American Press Association asked the Mexican president to stop his attacks against journalist Carlos Loret de Mola because they incite violence against the press, they said. That happened after the president's eldest son and his wife answered allegations that they may have engaged in a conflict of interest. Both lived last year in a house owned by an executive who is a PEMEX contractor.

(....)

FELICIDAD AVELEYRA [Telemundo]: The son of the president of Mexico defends himself after the luxuries surrounding him were revealed; now he says that there is no conflict of interest with the presidency of his father and that he works as an advisor. But López Obrador had no qualms about defending him by attacking the journalist who published the information.

(....)

JULIO VAQUEIRO [Telemundo]: The eldest son of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador tried to clarify his income to justify his lavish lifestyle. José Ramón López Bertrán took 17 days to provide answers and said he works as an advisor to a construction company.

The contrast in coverage between the two presidential sons is astounding given that, as detailed in the reports, the “controversy” surrounding the younger López concerns his luxurious living conditions in the United States, and his having taken 17 days to respond to reporting from journalist Carlos Loret de Mola. Six and a half minutes over the course of one single day. Compare that to the concerted suppression of the Hunter Biden SCANDAL by the corporate media, including the Spanish-speaking channels, which had a direct impact on the 2020 presidential election.

As MRC Latino has said before, the media, including the Spanish-speaking conglomerates, had no qualms in its campaign to "silence dissident speech online and on social media...Whether it is natural immunity, therapeutics, or the Hunter Biden story, Big Tech and corporate media have shown that they cannot be trusted."

Given the amount of time spent on López Beltán vs. Hunter Biden, Telemundo and Univision are further proof of why their audiences mistrust them.
