Trump's Rejection of Racist Endorsers Omitted on Univision, Telemundo

March 1st, 2016 7:38 PM

The portrayal of Donald Trump as a racist continues full bore on Univision and Telemundo.

On Monday evening, the national evening newscasts of both networks craftily played up Trump’s stumbling Sunday morning answer to CNN’s Jake Tapper on the question of former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke’s endorsement.

It’s clear that both networks committed journalistic malpractice by completely ignoring Trump’s unequivocal rejection of Duke’s endorsement just the Friday before, as well as his repetition of his rejection of the endorsement both Sunday afternoon on Twitter and Monday morning on NBC’s Today show.

In their woefully incomplete coverage of the important matter, the agenda of portraying Trump as a KKK-embracing racist could not be more patently manifest.

GALO ARELLANO, REPORTER, UNIVISION: These incidents worry the Republican Party even more when over the weekend Donald Trump refused to reject the support David Duke has given him, the leader of the Ku Klux Klan, a community of white supremacy.

Telemundo’s error in reporting on the issue, while less direct and abject than that of Univision, also left out the crucially important information that Trump had, in fact, flat out disavowed Duke.

LORI MONTENEGRO, REPORTER, TELEMUNDO: Trump is being criticized for, among other things, not distancing himself from the support given by David Duke, once associated with the Ku Klux Klan.

Once again, the two titans of national Spanish-language media are failing to present the whole, readily available truth to their viewers.

Not only did Trump reject Duke’s endorsement at the Chris Christie endorsement press conference last Friday, but more than 16 years ago Trump explicitly walked away from the Reform Party over Duke’s involvement in that Party.

What's even worse is that on Monday, David Duke released a video unequivocally stating that he did not endorse Trump, despite agreeing with him on some of his views.
