Two alphas met both inside and outside of the ring at Saturday’s UFC match.
UFC 264, Connor McGregor vs. Dustin Poirier was the place to be Saturday night. The star-studded event drew massive attention on social media especially with President Trump making a grand entrance to the sold-out arena. Upon Trump’s arrival alongside UFC President Dana White, the crowd went wild and broke out in chants, “USA USA.” One viral moment captured on video shows actor-director Mel Gibson saluting the President in greeting as he walks by. The novelty of such an exchange was not lost on the public.

Shortly after, sour Twitter users who have too much time on their hands with too little senses of humor, dragged Gibson for having the audacity to show deference to a former President. Old accusations of antisemitism and racism were reprised to insult the Oscar-winner.
The Braveheart star was among many other Hollywood A-listers to attend the highly anticipated final fight in the McGregor - Poirier Trilogy at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. NFL star Odell Beckham Jr., comedian Dave Chapelle, musician Justin Bieber, tv-personality Kourtney Kardashian, rapper Machine Gun Kelly and his girlfriend actress Megan Fox were all present. But none were so antagonizing to the woke Twitter crowd as The Passion of the Christ director.
Mike Sington, a former executive at NBCUniversal, grossly tweeted “Of course Mel Gibson would stand and salute Donald Trump as he entered a UFC competition in Las Vegas. That’s what one racist, misogynistic, homophobic, fascist does to another. Scum of the earth salutes scum of the earth.”
The Lethal Weapon star’s respectful show of deference was too much to bear for leftist provocateur Majid Pedallan who exists only to trash Trump on the internet. “The crazy thing is, you didn't even need to know why Mel Gibson was trending to know that he probably did something shitty,” he tweeted. By “something shitty” Pedallan (who goes by “BrooklynDad_Defiant!” on Twitter) is referring to a simple saluting hand gesture. Wow. “Rest in hell to his dead career,” he concluded.
John Pavlovitz, an author and progressive Unitarian pastor tweeted simply that “Mel Gibson is who we thought he was.” Film director Jeremy Newberger tweeted “Mel Gibson liking Trump is about as surprising as David Duke liking fabric softener.” So clever!!
Everyone's a comedian when it comes to roasting Mel Gibson. Shannon Watts, the founder of “Mom’s Demand Action for Gun Sense in America” of course had to throw in her illuminating commentary on the matter, tweeting “There is no such thing as cancel culture if Mel Gibson isn’t cancelled by now.” Not very forgiving of you, mom.
Journalist David Leavitt, tweeted “I’m not surprised to see Mel Gibson salute Trump. Nazis have a history of saluting other Nazis.” And another, comedian John Fugelsang, shared “Saw Mel Gibson trending. Wondered “Is he torturing Jesus again? Turns out, he is.”
Heck, even VP Kamala Harris’ niece, Meena Harris felt compelled to chime in, tweeting “Mel Gibson and Karen trending, time to log off.”
The barrage of hateful comments went on and on. Gibson is worth over $400 million dollars, as one of the wealthiest actors of all time. It's not likely he is bothered.
