Appearing on MSNBC’s MTP Daily Tuesday afternoon, NBC chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel predicted that history would look back on President Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan as “a very dark period for the United States,” especially after news broke that the administration would allow the Taliban to dictate the time line. 

On Tuesday, the left-wing hosts of CBS This Morning all radically advocated that convicted felons should have the right to vote, claiming that anyone losing that right as punishment for their crimes was “ridiculous,” “mind-boggling,” and “wrong.” They predictably suggested racism was the motivation for the legal restriction.

CNN’s John Avlon was sounding the alarm for nervous Democrats, on Tuesday’s New Day, over the possibility of California having a Republican governor very soon. Governor Gavin Newsom is in a tight race with frontrunner Larry Elder, so Avlon tried every excuse in the book to explain why this race was unfair to Democrats as he ginned up fear against conservatives.

If you want traditional “hard news,” the best place to find it may still be one of the Big Three evening newscasts, where more than 70 percent of the typical broadcast fits the definition of old-fashioned reporting. And, compared to cable news, ABC, CBS and NBC present viewers with news about a much wider array of topics.

Less than one-fourth (22.3%) of what is aired on cable news could be classified as old-fashioned hard news — just-the-facts reporting or live as-it-happens coverage of an unfolding event. Instead, nearly 80 percent of what’s on cable news these days consists of talk-show discussion and opinionated commentary by the anchors.
