The opening monologue of the 70th Primetime Emmy Awards, airing September 17 on NBC, included a little of the usual political slams worked into Hollywood entertainment award shows. The ceremony hosts, Saturday Night Live’s "Weekend Update" hosts Colin Jost and Michael Che, took swipes at Christian conservatives and Roseanne fans.

On paper, the new Amazon Prime original series Forever should be great. It stars Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph as June and Oscar, a middle-class married couple in California. Those two actors together should have made it a hilarious comedy. Instead, Forever was a rambling and pointless slog and, in the second episode, unnecessarily insulting towards Christians. 

Besides gay rights, Shameless, Showtime’s hit liberal show, has yet another social justice cause to champion. This time it's equal pay.

Only two episodes into its return and Sarah Silverman’s I Love You America is already probably the most obnoxious show of 2018. After a lousy hate-fest last week, the Hulu series continues to promote its hatred for all things right-wing. This week is no different, except with more profane jabs at President Trump.

The left is determined to try to normalize abortion as much as possible in today’s world. The most recent episode of the CW’s Burden of Truth gets downright flippant with its dialogue between female characters discussing abortion.

The USA Network show The Purge, based off the horror movie franchise of the same title, can never be accused of subtlety. It continues to push a liberal agenda in the second episode, this time blaming small government for the Purge.

Shameless, the hit Showtime series, has had its fair share of Christian bashing throughout the years. Perhaps most notably last season when Ian Gallagher (Cameron Monaghan), went up against a pastor, cherry-picking Bible verses to fit his agenda and started his own ‘Church of Gay Jesus’ religious movement. Contrary to popular Hollywood belief, our country’s not going down the tubes because our president is Donald Trump. Our country’s going down the tubes thanks to shows like HBO’s The Deuce being renewed. The David Simon-produced, James Franco-led series continues to exploit its MA-rating under the guise of being edgy television. Even more shocking, they seem to be getting away with it!

Fans of Chelsea Handler and Michelle Wolf should rejoice. While Netflix had the good sense to cancel those shows, Hulu’s I Love You, America with Sarah Silverman has somehow returned despite a horrible, terrible, no-good, very bad first season. For a show that claims to “love” America, it sure hates a good part of it.

FX’s new show Mayans MC is a spinoff of the biker drama Sons of Anarchy, which finished its seven-season run almost four years ago. That connection seems fitting as the new series covers many of the same issues, such as gruesome violence and a love for gun deaths. However, this time around, they manage to insert a new political edge. These days, what show doesn’t?

USA Network introduced a future, dystopian United States in The Purge on Tuesday, where for one night a year “any and all crimes--including murder--is legal.”

A short civics lesson was written into the script of Wrecked this week. I didn’t expect such a discussion when I tuned into the show about a group of people stranded on an island but, it’s 2018, so there you go. Naturally, it was the liberal hippie-dippie woman delivering the message.

I'm a pretty big fan of the stories featuring Jack Ryan (there are more than 20 books by Tom Clancy, plus movies including Clear and Present Danger, The Hunt for Red October, and The Sum of All Fears), so I was delighted that Amazon Prime came out with a new series based on the American CIA officer called simply "Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan" on August 31.

From the endless mockery of Christianity and Christian beliefs, to the promotion of all kinds of sexual and gender identity exploration among minors and adults alike, to liberal issues like abortion, Netflix’s newest teen dramedy Insatiable is definitely not anything I would have let my kids watch when they were impressionable, teens.
